The Mrs and I are looking at getting a new mattress and we are considering one of these.
Are they worth it? Does anyone have one?

Cliffs:
sleepnumber, yes or no?

NO, IMHO, I like TP better, did a lot of research while buying and went with TP.

Its a friggen air matress, theyve been around for a LONG time. I got a queen sized one with a built in motor and manual controls (for inflating/defalting on demand) for 100$ a few years ago (I had one back in the 80s as well). Not a "sleep number"...but its the same thing. I think I got mine from a camping store. Tossed a memory foam pad on top, mostly to protect the matress, works great. Now Ive got a 10,000$ tempurpedic and sleep number hybrid matress that cost me under 200$. I didnt go out and get an expensive boxspring or some crazy getup for a bed frame either, just used a sheet of plywood on a 5$ frame from goodwill or such. One end had plates welded to it with boltholes for attaching your own headboard, if thats something you just have to have.

To me the sleep number is so stupid...itd be like someone coming out with a cordless phone today and charging 1000$ for it plus 100$ a month boasting about its 15 mile range. Somehow everyone totally forgets this stuff has been around for ages (plus the cell phones in their pockets). Even though they already have products that do the same thing or better, everyone jumps on the fad. I wish I could con people like that...

So yeah, why the heck wouldnt you want an adjustable matress, but why havnt you got one already, and why are you looking at this super expensive infomercial stuff? Save the money and donate it to charity.

I slept on one. Nothing really different than an air matress with easy adjustments. I found a higher number more comfortable.

I highly recommend the TP Cloud Supreme. Granted I only paid half price...but in retrospect I would have paid full price.

Several people in my office have a Sleep Number bed and they said it's one of the best investments they've ever made. The difference between a TP and SN matress is you can set firmness at different points. One guy even has one that lifts, so he can watch TV, and then go back down to sleep. Cool

I had one in the Radisson Hotel I stayed at a month or two ago. What a fucking nightmare. One of the least comfortable beds I've ever slept in. My back hurt so badly in the morning.

The large part of the problem is if your significant other likes to sleep at a vastly different number than you, it leads to each side of the bed at vastly different heights. It feels like two different height beds are smashed together, and instead of sleeping on a nice comfy queen bed, your on a dinky twin bed.

One thing they don't show in the commercial is they are LOUD when inflating! We first thought ooo sleep number... played with it.. oh neat. Then we were trying to sleep, and we could hear everyone else in their rooms going ooo sleep number!! WURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. ugh

Uh, it doesn't adjust while you are sleeping so...who cares?

Anyway, I'm on my second one (both the wife and I had them before we got married). Yes, in some ways its a glorified air mattress but its a hell of a lot more comfortable than an Aerobed so they must be doing something right.

I hate them. I switched hotels because of them.

Oh cool! Look, you can adjust the firmness! I think that tonight, I'm in the mood for 4. But, look out Friday night! 8!!!

/sarcasm
Seriously, if the claim to fame is that you can adjust the firmness to whichever feels best for you, why not just purchase a mattress with the correct firmness. (Or, does that make too much sense?)

<infomercial>
These shirts are adjustable! One size fits all! Only $1000!
"But dude, I wear a size medium. And, I can get a shirt that fits me for under $100."
Ahhh, but this isn't any old shirt, this shirt *adjusts*! It'll fit anyone! And, fits you!
So, don't go around all day with that XXL shirt that hangs off of you like drapes. And,
look at that super tight extra small shirt that guy over there is wearing. This shirt you can adjust to
size medium so it fits you.
"You've convinced me!"

I owned one (well still do but it's in my guest room now) for many years and always had a sore back and never realized it was because of that damn bed until I got my Tempurpedic a few years ago.

I've slept on it a few times since having the Tempurpedic (when I'm sick and don't want to get the wife sick) and holy hell do I hate that damn thing.

I would never ever recommend to anyone to get a sleep number bed.

I cannot recommend enough to people to get a Tempurpedic bed, the commercials are true, just ask people that have one, they're the best bed money can buy IMO.
