I haven't had it happen in a couple years. It would usually happen if I took a nap on the couch while watching tv after work. I would wake up on the couch and I could see the tv just fine, but my whole body would just feel tingly and would refuse to move.

Happened to me too.

I heard really muddy, weird noises around my ears. I had no way of making out what it was saying. I thought it was telling me to get out of bed. The reason being I felt people came on my bed on each side, the bed was pressed down, it was obvious to me that I wasn't the only person laying down. And then something even weirder happened, I heard a loud kick on the side of my bed. I was like "Shit dude!" So I made a mental note to check the sound. The next morning, I woke up, didn't forget, gave it a kick, and sure enough, exactly the same sound.

Two weeks later I was chatting with the landlord, she let me know that her grandparents used to sleep on the same bed I was using. I didn't want to ask where they were. I moved out quickly after that.

Yesterday morning at about 3AM (at work), I was writing something in my log about inspecting the janitor's trash before he dumped it. I got to the "t" in "trash" when my eyes rolled up and I started thinking "nonsense words." I quickly snapped out of it and realized that I had started writing a gibberish word before I caught myself. I recalled that the last "nonsense word" that went through my mind was "agent" and, though that's not what I had written, it seemed to have an effect (unlike "trash," there was an "n" in it and it did end in a "t"). I somehow made it look like that word "trash," by adding a new "t," combining a few letters, and strategically adding a few marks but it was still weird-looking to anyone who noticed that it didn't have a space before it and that it floated off the line.

I can't say I've ever had sleep paralysis, but I think it's similar to that feeling you get as you fall asleep triggers a reflex like you are REALLY falling, you jerk fast successfully and wake back up, ruining your attempt at falling asleep. It seems like a part of your mind resists this reflexive need to "jerk" and your mind responds by manufacturing a dream to go with it. I wish my mind would resist it. :| Sometimes it happens repeatedly and I just can't go back to sleep right away.

I've had it before but I've never seen any figures or anything like that. To me, it feels like being trapped in my own body, and a lot of what I'm trying (and failing, as I can't move) to do is alert others to my situation. For instance, one time when I was in my room by myself I was trying to hit the wall with my hands to attempt to wake up my friend in the room next door (college dormitory). Another time when I was with my boyfriend I tried to get his attention too, but of course couldn't move. He could tell that something was wrong though. It's really a terrifying experience.

It's been about a year or so, but I was experiencing this pretty regularly for a while. Some where particularly scary.

I tried to snap out and the person laughed a bit, then I tried again, and in a flash, the person was gone, and I was just laying on the bed in the same position and everything.

Use to get it all the time, bought a pillow that doesn't let me roll onto my back.

I use to be in the sleep state and walk around eyes wide open, now that was freaky.

Worst experience just moved into a brand new apartment, was really tired so I passed out on the sofa that night, I woke up0 frozen and saw and felt this
invisible outline of a creature coming towards me and jumped on me and started to strangle me, actually fell to the floor and started wrestling with it, whe I came too screaming at the top of my lungs, my heart felt like it was going to come out of my chest, it was the weirdest feeling imagine being the most frightened to you can ever get then go up one level from that, it was unreal. Doesn't help either the huge apartment complex use to be a nursing home, where old people died all the time.

What's weird if you look up on the web, a lot of people around the world have had about the same thing happen to them.

This happens to me fairly frequently but I don't perceive any figures or people present. It's always right before I wake up and I think I am awake and trying to move, and when I can't I try to flail around violently. It lasts no more than a few seconds and then I wake up and am like "oh, I wasn't awake after all." It's weird because when this happens I always dream that I am exactly where I am (i.e. I won't think I'm not in my bed or wherever I am I sleeping).

Not yet So far I did not wake up with any weird scratches or anything, then I would be freaked lol. I did dream of someone trying to shoot snow balls at me but he kept missing or I kept turning around and catching him making one up then he'd just act like nothing was going on. For some reason, in the dream I wanted to call the police. LOL. Dreams can be so messed up. That's probably a sign I'm just sick of the snow. I want +15 weather, for at least one week! Come on, not asking for a lot here.

Never had experienced sleep paralysis that I know of. I think you are more prone to it if you have stayed up far beyond exhaustion and then go to bed. (36h+)

Actually that could be. I find when I do get it, it's usually when I'm super tired. "One more compile!" turns into 3 hours of debugging the program even though I wanted to go to bed 2 hours before that.

I also have not been drinking much pepsi so I find it makes me more tired as I used to have like 1-2 per day now I cut down to maybe 2-4 a week (usually on weekends only).

I used to get this back in my drinking days. Since I quit drinking it never has surfaced.

This is interesting. It will be wonderful when we can induce this in a person. It could be used as a method of enhanced interrogation. I'm sure it would be quite effective.

I don't know if it would work for interrogation since you are paralyzed during the experience. Could you even talk?

Some of these stories are fucking creepy. The only time it ever happened to me my head was turned toward the bedside clock, which read 5:38 A.M. I tried to move and couldn't, but eventually I snapped out of it. During that time I watched the clock change to 5:39. At first I assumed I had simply woken from a vivid dream, but the bedside clock read 5:39 A.M. I was really awake and thinking but couldn't move for 1 minute.

You ever wake up and look at the clock and see like.. 7:00AM and then you just blink and it flashes to 8:00AM? I have had this happen a few times.. It sucks because I feel no difference in sleepiness either... It's not like that one hour I was asleep actually improved me... lol. It's really fast too like blinking. I think I actually am just blinking, but I actually fell asleep. I've blinked to where my eye lids are down, and then someone wakes me up at like 7:38AM and I am going, "wtf... wtf.. what happened?"

Not paralyzed, necessarily... Just tired. So.. I am off-topic... All well.

Imagine this guys; getting sleep paralysis and having it involve Jesus/ God speaking to you. It messes with you because it is so real.
Basically the Jesus gave me a warning to get my shit together. and that He would not always be there to protect me....

Funny thing about it is. I didn't listen, and actually ended up messing up BIG. But thats another story.

I've had sleep paralysis where I just hear sound all over, most of the time though it does envolve evil things....or ideas.

yup, definitely had this happen and I'm not religious at all (it was actually satan though LOL)

Wake them up to have them talk. If they don't put them back to sleep. It's simple. The Bush administration would have loved this.

Combined with waterboarding. Now we're getting somewhere! Though, water usually wakes you up, so that would be hard.
