Sleeping on the job!

Hi guys

My pc has started misbehaving in a way that I cannot understand. From time to time, it seems to sort of freeze which I will try to describe.

It is not usually when I am working but when I return to it after a while and it has been in screensaver mode. I have it set so that after about 10 mins of inactivity, the monitor powers down into power save mode. When I come back to it, normally I only have to move the mouse and the screen comes straight back on but now no matter what I do (kb, CD drive etc all of which actions used to 'wake' the pc up again) nothing and I have to reboot. Sometimes even when the screen is on, the window which I have open just freezes and I can no longer close it or anything. If I then open Task Manager to close the application that way, TM also freezes!

Any ideas guys please.

Start by doing the obvious...i.e virus scans with up-to-date definitions and run adaware and MS anti spyware.....

Use the event viewer it is your friend!!!

Go to Control panel ->administrative tools -> then event viewer and look for events that happened around the time of your crash this may help narrow down your problem....

I had this problem years ago.

What I think happened was that I used hardware drivers from the monitor manufacturer, and it conflicted with Windows' power management settings for my display. If you have any utilities or drivers for your monitor, may want to try disabling/uninstalling them, configure Windows power management, then see if it persists.

Thanks for your help guys. I have run adaware, spybot and my antivirus progs. I have turned off screensaver and monitor power mgt. and I have not had the problem at all today.
