some 6600 and 6800 (non GTs) have the SLI link on their cards. on some sites the specs say that they are compatible and on some sites it says that they aren't. On nVidia site, these cards are not listed as certified. Do they work or not, is the question.

Any one got any of the following cards to work in SLI:

ASUS Extreme N6600TOP/TD/128M/A
http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1763

eVGA GeForce 6800 256mb 256bitDDR/PCI-E/HDTV/DVI

MSI NX6800-TD256E
http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=NX6800-TD256E&class=vga

There are several more...

I'm much more interested in the 6800 card because it's 256MB memory as opposed to 6800GT with 128MB, and cheaper too.

Any card with the SLI connector should be compatible as long as you use two identical cards.

if some BFG GPUs only work in SLI on BFG mobos, then anything is possible.... including the fact that just because there is a connector don't mean that it actually works

What are you talking about? There's a reason for standards like AGP and PCIe, plug it in and it works. "SLI Certified" just means that Nvidia themselves has tested it and say it works. SLI is done through the video cards and the nForce4 chipset, the motherboard has nothing to do with it assuming the physical connections are all there. If you don't believe me that two identical cards won't work together in SLI then call\email Nvidia or any of their partners (BFG would probably be the best to ask).

i came across several forum discussions a few days ago where ppl were having problems with a 6600/6800 BFG board and they resolved the problem by calling BFG and finding out that that particular model is SLI-capable in a BFG mobo only. Now, I cannot vouch for them and how right they are, but i did not hallucinate this.

What bothers me, is that many manufac. have the SLI ready sticker on their boards even though they do not appear to be in this list:
http://www.slizone.com/content/slizone/build.html

Also, there is still no explanation as to why ASUS 6600 (non GT) is sporting an SLI link when nVidia was pretty clear in establishing that only 6800-series and 6600 GT are SLI compatible

Probably incase there is an update so asus does't have to redo the 6600.

more info (this is too weird):

on the asus site... duh, when in doubt go to the manufac. site the specs for the 6600 ?GT? don't mention anything about sli-capabilities (yet the sli link is there)

here it is listed as 6600 GT: http://usa.asus.com/products/vga/vgaindex.htm

whereas 6800GT, which is clearly sli-capable, is clearly listed as such here: http://usa.asus.com/products/vga/en6800gt/overview.htm

i think i agree with cheese on this one... they probably haven't worked out the drivers yet (?) but plan on it in the future.

kinda unfortunate that the two boards i like the best: asus 6600 and msi 6800 NX6800-TD256E are going to be a gamble for sli config
