Wonder why nvidia wouldn't give the go ahead for current chipsets?

Edit: I guess it would be hard for them to get any money for it?

However, we’ve been recently hearing chants of “SLI for AMD CPUs”, and figured that now is a great time to do it. After all, we want to make sure gamers can benefit from the new CPU competitive landscape and ensure they have NVIDIA SLI – the highest performance, most stable multi-GPU solution - to game on!

Nice BS from a company that hurts the gamers on regular basis in order to promote its agenda.

They disabled the SLI on purpose, it's not like they add now a new feature and that's only because of the Lucid Hydra and the promising Bulldozer line they don't want to miss.

Its funny that people are making comments rebuking nVidia's performance claims they made in the article.

Can't argue with that

But its still its good for the consumers in the end since they will have a broader choice.

It's funny that people are actually believing their BS claims.

Long term gamers probably remember that for a long time AMD offered great high-end CPUs, but in recent years, AMD’s stature as the preferred gaming CPU fell by the wayside and Intel CPUs have been the gamers’ choice.

Actually, "in recent years" AMD has never been as weak for gaming compared to Intel as today so that's a total BS. They didn't allow SLI on AMD chipsets in the Lynnfield days so why now when it's even worse for AMD? They're afraid of the Lucid Hydra, that's why.

No, they have coders that do the heavy lifting for the game developers and who make sure the AMD cards don't fare well on their TWITMTBP games. They go as far as hurting their own customers by overtesselating and thus decreasing the performance of their own cards just to exploit a "weakness" of the AMD cards.

This I didn't know, and I'm rather shocked......

but the question is DO THEY WORK BETTER IN GAMES?

75% of the time.. its YES.

Which is why i gave up on ATI and Xfire..

I honestly got tired of waiting for good working solid drivers.

Wrong time, wrong place , wrong Bat channel, to open up this case of worms buddy.

I hope you have your flame suit on.

I never had a sli system, but from reading many posts, it seems sli has better game profiles.

Of course you are shocked, because you don't seem to have quite accepted how useless the Steam hardware survey is.

Here's a clue: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1741860

Marketing 101: Use flawed numbers to promote your own agenda, which is what NV are doing by adding the 93% number to their 'press' release.

Now that I think about it, I would not be at all surprised if nvidia buys lucid just to make it croak... Or put major limitations on it like they did with Physx.

Actually the reason I am shocked is that even 50% seemed like more than I would have thought.

Even if Steam was a poor indicator of %, I would still think a number as high as 93% does show there is probrobly more sli systems than x-fire, thats what I'm shocked about.

If steam for one reason or another doesn't detect whether an ati computer is cross-fired what good is that 93% number?

ok, thanks I didn't know that. So you are saying there is a flaw with ATI cards, x-fire and steam detection?

edit: real quick question, why dosen't Nvidia have 100% then?
WHo has the other 7%?

looks to me like Steam and AMD work together and how hard can it be to detect your own software configurations.
http://blogs.amd.com/play/2010/09/1...-up-to-provide-ati-catalyst-updates-on-steam/
With today’s exciting announcement from AMD and Valve®, Steam gamers will never again have to worry about finding the most recent ATI Catalyst™ graphics driver. PC gamers can now detect and install the latest ATI Catalyst™ driver for their ATI Radeon™ graphics card directly from within Steam! Gamers using ATI graphics will not only be kept posted on the latest available drivers for their hardware, but with every update they’ll know that they’re getting the overall best possible gaming experience AMD and Valve can provide.

Look at the link.
It's a Steam problem with detecting multiple ATI cards.
Sometimes it does detect, but not often enough.
Also if NV really wanted to push the boat, they could have said it's more like 96%.
92.97%% SLI 2 GPU
4.24% AMD Crossfire 2 GPU
1.74% SLI 4 GPU
1.04% SLI 3 GPU

Steam couldn't tell between the 4890, 4870, 4850 and 4830 so steam gets what the driver gives it. If the driver isn't completely transparent, then steam has no way of knowing. In any case, I wouldn't be surprised if there were more SLI systems than Xfire systems.

why would i need it when i just came out of an ATI platform?
A person like me ignores budget and goes after the least problem prone hardware period.

I came out of very dark waters with ATI, and if u dont believe me, ask any of my friends.

I basically killed ATI for all of them.

OK, based on what? Your in-depth evaluations? Or your limited experience?

No based off all the hardware i have had.
Oh man.. looks like im being majorly underestimated:

So fine.. u guys want me to take you down that road.. here:

It starts off with the HD3870's... great?? oh man.. gave me more headaches then worth:

But no that didnt stop me.. i went and grab'd the X2's:
And u think i just got one? No i got 2:

So your talking to someone whose been on dual cards since Voodoo2 days -> 6800GTX.

Then i gave ATI another shot on a 5870.
Dont get me wrong, the 5870 was a great card.. but..

Its not this:

And i loved that card so much... i got another:

Now when rebuilding my main computer, i had a budget more then enough to go 6990, but my fiasco i went though on the X2's have KILLED IT for me.

You think im shinning on my budget? Thats my rebuild worklog:
http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2157303

Not just me either.. all of my friends who know me swore never to touch a dual gpu card period, because they dont want me to laugh in the same amounts they laughed at me.

So if u think i lack experience in GPU cards... fine.. but this is my personal experience with high end ATI cards... and as i said i went though hell and back.
