SLI Too Close?

I have a GTX 980ti Windofrce (not the G1)
and I just aquired a GTX 980ti Xtreme.
Looking to do SLI with them on my Asus X99 Deluxe with 5960x which is 40 lanes.
So Motherboard says for 40 lanes it would be these slots.
Is this too tight/close?
I have 3 intake fans at the front plus a dual rad at the top with one exhaust at back. Will air flow be a problem?

Your picture link is a dead link but I've seen that mobo at a friend's house. Are you planning to occupy pcie 3 & 4 (counting from top down)? You will need the short bridge if you do. 60mm (2 & 1/2") is the most common bridge size out there but it's too long to be used in slots 3 & 4 (that's what she said). If the SLI bridge is of the long variety, it is meant for connecting 1 &3 (2 is the short slot) which, my guess is the actual 40 lanes config.

Again, I've only briefly seen the mobo but it would be odd if slot 1 isn't part of the ideal configuration.
If you have the flexible bridge you won't have to worry about distance.

Ideally, you want space between the cards but no matter what one card will suffer more than the other. Test the cards ASIC rating using GPU-Z and put the card with the better value top, it should require less voltage than the other card and the temp difference when under load (if you win the silicon lottery, cooler even idling) should be decreased.



I wonder if Pascal (and future) GPU's could be SLI-ed using two single finger bridges or of it has to be a dual finger bridge?
