OK, I'm about to spend big bucks on a new SLi system. I am leaning towards a system with the following:

AMD FX-55
Dual GeForce 6800 GT gpu's
1 Gig RAM
160 GiG RAID 0 Seagate Barracuda HDs
ASUS A8N-SLi Deluxe MoBo

Total costs is about $6,000. The guys at Voodoo tell me that their system is faster than Alienware since Alienware uses an Intel based XEON processor which is meant for servers.
Is this accurate? And what do you think about the system outlined above? Thanks!

i'd wait about 2 months and build an SLi system myself. 6 grand sounds WAAAAY too high, and if you ordered today you wouldnt see that PC untill then anyway.

If it's true that Alienware uses Xeon's, then yes get the FX-55 rig. It's a whole lot more money than you need to spend, but if you are loaded then it doesn't matter.

DAMN.. that is rediculous amount of money to drop on a PC.. I agree.. wait 2 months and spend less than half that for a better product!

I've been pricing things a lot, and $6000 is thousands too high for those specs, unless there're a couple of thousand sunk into a huge screen. If you must buy instead of build, just check out another vendor like abscomputer.com before you buy at such a ridiculous price. Wouldn't you rather build yourself a rig, and know that you saved yourself thousands of dollars?

Thanks. I've considered building it myslef but knowing me, something would go wrong and I would end up throwing the damn thing against the wall in frustration...

also, not as many people have/or have heard of voodoo than alienware. and IMO, their cases look way better.

Maybe you should just get 1 vid card now and buy another later? Do you really need 2 right now?

How much memory?

Well, now that you remove your specs nevermind from me as well. lol

well basically this, i forgot to hit update but anyway

fx55
600w PSU
1 gig 3200LL mem twinx
75g raptor
250g SATA
audigy 2
kb/mouse
2x 6800 ultras
burner
dvd drive

for about 5500 no monitor
you can get a NEC 22in CRT from newegg for about 500$ for some reason if you add it in the falcon site it adds 850$ to the price

so for 6K that will destroy anything from voodoo or AW

if you use a 3800+ you can save 300$ and have 95% the power

the same computer from ABS will cost you like 4400$

You can pretty much half the price of that system and get better parts if you did decide to build it yourself.

AMD FX-55 Processor - $879
ASUS A8N-SLi Deluxe MoBo - ~$300 (guessing.. it's not out yet)
2x nVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra's - $499 x2
2x1GB Kingston HyperX PC3200 Sticks (Dual Channel Kit) - $732.75

Throw in Two 74.4GB WD Raptors for $177 each and the total is $3263.75. I'm sure the rest of the parts are going to cost less than $736.25, so you can easily save yourself $2000.. And you get twice the RAM and better graphic's cards.

yea you are right but he doesnt wanna build it himself
audio card - 100$
DVD burner 80
DVD Drive 50
KB/mouse combo 100
floppy - 10
case 150
power supply - 200
that has just about eaten all of that 736$
then you gotta get windows XP - 120$ or whatever it costs
if you ordered it all retail then it costs more, if OEM you need to buy cables

then there is the setting up and trouble shooting

so for 4000$ you can do it all yourself of for 4400$ you can pay ABS to do it for you

personally in this case i would pay ABS to do it because you dont want to

I'm also getting a 22" CRT monitor., Klipsch speakers ($400), Pioneer dual layer 16x DVD+-RW. BUt you're right, sounds like ABS can do it cheaper. What about support? Does ABS compare?
