Slingbox without a cable box?

We plug our cable straight into our TV at home, and it gets a good number of all the basic channels, but what can I do to get it hooked up to a slingbox? Is there a device that converts a coaxial connection into an AV connection, with the ability to control the channels as well?

Edit: It looks like the newer models have an ANT-IN port, while my old model only has the standard composite cables + S-Video.

Slingbox Tuner?

It transmits an analog, non-widescreen picture, and tuner doesn't do all cable channel scan, but works real well for me (parents get two analog feeds, in addition to the digital feed through set top box, with their all in one package).

Slingbox tuner is nice because it is always on and you don't have to power on and off cable box remotely.

Yeah I found that, and I might consider purchasing one..but I already have the original Slingbox that I'd prefer to use if possible.

Would an old VCR work? I know our TV does up to to 100+ channels which I'm not sure VCRs supported back then. Is there a similar device that could convert the signal in the same way?

Other thing about Slingbox tuner is that it has a coax pass through, so you can also connect it to a tv and two people can watch two different channels simultaneously (one via Slingbox Tuner, other via direct passthrough of local feed).

Hmm yeah that's what I need..there's a slingbox sensor thing that hovers above devices, like a cable box, and the Slingbox software sends a signal to the sensor into the device to change the channel. So if the Slingbox supports this device it'll be fine, but I'm not sure if it does.

ah, sounds like an IR transmitter. i guess you just have to find a supported device...

Hello I'm new to the forum.

I was thinking of purchasing a slongbox but am not totally sure it will do what I think it will.

I currently stream shows via Internet using Hulu or Netflix basically whatever is available. It's pretty limited for my particular taste.

Where does sling box get channels if I don't have a cable box? What channels can I get?

I'm looking for some channels to watch without any monthly fee. Is this possible ? Can anyone answer this?

You can use Slingbox with Amazon Firestick, but you will also need either a set top box (Best Buy) or a cable box. As alternative, you can use a firestick with an older version of Amazon Recast Box. The new ones for sale no longer will allow this feature. Wish there was a work around: I cut the cable recently and am totally firestick and a firecast DVR box, but it's the new one and won't support a slingbox, so I guess I have a couple of Sling Boxes for sale. I spoke to Sling Box and they didn't seem at all interested in joining technology (yet).
