Forgive me for my Ignorance but I am a bit lost.

Andy,
Please explain how to perform this "Extract the service pack files using sp1network.exe -x and extract to a directory x:\sp1"
Do you mean this will extract the files that have been installed on an existing W2K OS with SP1 service pac installed? I get error messages when running this command.

What is slipstream?
"Slipstream update the Win2K installation files using update -s:x:\Win2K."
How should this be executed? This file is not installed in W2K.
sp1network.exe -x

EDIT: OK I SEE. NETWORK SP1. Don't have. Nevermind.
Would like to be able to extract SP1 files though.

TomBilliodeaux: sp1network.exe contains the Service Pack 1 files. Download it from Microsoft. By extraction, I mean expand the sp1network.exe file....bring all the SP1 files out.

This file is not installed with Win2K....correct. You have to download it.....it's a patch.

Slipstream means to install/apply Service Pack 1 to the Win2K source files before you install Win2K itself. This way, you save the extra step of having to install SP1 later.

For my bootable CD to work, you need the Win2K CD and sp1network.exe (Service Pack 1), as well as those other files. Then you can make a CD that will install Win2K and Service Pack 1 all in one go.

No, NERO cannot do this. It always completely stuffs up the boot part.

Can someone explain how to do the slipstream? In DOS? or can we just copy the I386 folder to the win2k folder to replace those contents? Help please. Thanks

At the very least, you must extract the service pack files using sp1network.exe -x and extract to a directory x:\sp1. This provides a complete archive of the SP1 files only.

Slipstream update the Win2K installation files using update -s:x:\Win2K....I don't know if this command works in DOS or not...never tried it. You MUST perform this step rather than simply copying over the old files in the i386 directory as file versions in the manifests must be updated.

Well, actually, that was my question. Where do I type update -s:x:\Win2K In DOS it says no such function exists...so where do I do that?

It's not a DOS function. It's an executable located in the i386\update directory created by the expanded service pack files.

I did as it instructed. I am still getting NTLDR error upon booting computer.

The root Win2k folder is

AUTORUN.INF
BOOTDISK
CDROM_IP.5
CDROM_NT.5
CDROM_SP.TST
DISCOVER
I386
READ1ST.TXT
README.DOC
SETUP.EXE
SETUPTXT
SUPPORT
VALUEADD

Boot.bin is on Bin folder, load the boot.bin file from root directory of C:\Bin into the advanced options stated in CDRWIN.

Am I doing something wrong?

If you look at my prior posts, you will find that I stated you must get the Boot.bin file from the site I mentioned. The url is in this thread. If you are still having probs, I have the bin file that works. Send your email address to me and I will send you the bin file.

You can run the slipstream from the command prompt. Just change the dir to the x:\win2k\update directory. Then enter update -s:x:\win2k. That'll launch a program window that shows the progress of the slipstreaming.

I did Slipstream update the Win2K installation files using update -s:C:\Win2K without any problem. Only issue here, I am getting NTLDR error even though I tried the boot.bin from Contamination.org.

Is it possible for me to get boot.bin from my orginal Win2K cd with any special program? I seem cant locate it on CD. Anyone cares to tell me why it is not being found on Win2k CD?

You won't find boot.bin on the CD because it is outside the ISO file system. I have given 2 links to boot.bin above. A directory listing of the original Win2K CDROM and the slipstreamed Win2K + SP1 CDROM will not show up boot.bin.

If anyone wants a working boot.bin file, goto ftp://64.0.243.206, make sure that you enter the site using Passive mode. You will see a file called "WIN2K_DS.ZIP". I have used this file AND IT WORKS!!!

If you have any problems trying to download the file, please let me know with an email.
