Slot 1 or FC?

P3V4X MB im looking to update my CPU from my celeron 600@927. Im thinking about going with a 700@??? Are the Slot1's available? Which would be easier to rig cooling on? Is there another OC'able CPU i should think about?

I don't think you'll have much success o'cing a Celeron2 700, like you've had with your 600. That's 10.5 x 103 = 1081! Ain't going to happen. You're best bet would be the C2 633. FCPGA work best. Should be able to get it to 950 or 979. Also, you might check out Overclockers.com . They have a database of o'cing results for all the AMD & Intel chips. This will give you an idea of success rates. That 600@927 is a nice overclock. A 633@950 is not going to buy you any performance gain. And as Tates said, forget about the celeron 700. If you are unhappy with your system's performance, then you are going to have to move to a P3 processor. I would advise staying with the FCPGA.

id forget about a celeron and go p3.even a p3 is going to show minimal gains on what you have now.believe me i've been there.i've went from cII566(900) to a p3700e(?) and the benchmarks on everything except memory are real close with both running 900.so if you must get new i'd go with a 700e cco,slot one is possible but there real hard to find.other than that i'd wait alittle longer to see whats going to happen(i.e. 2+ gigs).

OOPS. should have made myself a little more clear. Im looking at the P3 700's. PCNUT has some slot1 700's pretested @933 for $200. Supposedly alot of them are getting 1g+ out of them. This comes with a Vantec P3D-5030 HS/F. A bit steep I think.
Might just end up upgrading my aging V3-3k. Would i see a better performance gain while gaming with the Video upgrade?

Most likely you would see some gain upgrading your video card to something like GF2 or Radeon.

Take a look in the For Sale/Trade forum. You can get a FC-PGA P3 700@933 for about $157 shipped. You already have the slotket since you have a C2 on a P3V4X. Now all you need to get is a HS&F. The Alpha P3125 can be had for $42 + $4 S&H at Phamcompunter. The total price is $206. So for $20 cheaper than PC Nut ($215 + $8 S&H = $223), you have the same setup with a better HSF.

Or go to the For Sale/Trade forum and pick up a P3125 for $35 shipped. Now you have saved yourself $30 over PC Nut, and have a better set up.

Not that I am against PC Nut. I was set to buy from them till I came across the deals above.

Of course, you could take the $20~$30 you would save and spend it to get a 700@1GHz.
