Slot Loading DVD Drives...

Ok here is the problem:
I need a slot loading dvd drive for my tiny pc, becuase of the way the case is going to be designed. This wasn't a problem until yesterday when my Pioneer 103S decided it would now only function as a cd holder (It accepts the disc but doesn't even try to read it)

So now I'm looking for a new one, basically the most important factor is noise. Although people have commented on Pioneer drives' loadness my old one was extremely quiet so I'm hoping quiet slot loading drives do exist.

Ultimately I'd like a slot loading CD-RW/DVD, but I think I might be dreaming

anyway any recommendations are good thanks.

well i just recently bought a 16x Pioneer slot load DVD rom and i must say it is pretty noisy even when playing dvd's, which can be pretty anoying. I think it has something to do with the slot load design.

If quietness is that much of a deal maybe just get a tray load toshiba drive..

<< I think the Toshibas are quieter than the Pioneers >>

true but they don't make slot drives!

I own both the Toshiba & Pioneer 16x DVD drives.

Neither are particularly noisy when playing DVDs. It is when the Pioneer is reading CDs at that 40x speed that the noise really spools up.

hmm..

I haven't tried cleaning the laser lens on my old drive, I am somewhat puzzled as to how to get to it.
I think I might try and find a 10x Pioneer drive, which will be quite sufficient (speeed wise). But nonetheless is there any form of slient drive style enclosure to try and contain at least some of the sound??

drewski:
your 16x Pioneer is it a slot loading drive, or tray??

Thanks for the help everyone.

I have the 10x slot and the 16x slot. The 10 is a little quieter but not by much.

Get the 16x Pioneer. The only Slot-Loading drives I know of are the 16x Pioneer [be careful, there are two models: one with UDMA33 and the other with UDMA66. The 66 I hear gets much better speeds]. Also Pioneer makes another OEM Slot-load drive, a 40X CD-ROM.

Isn't noise a problem with most 16X dvd drives?
