Hey folks. Here's an FIC SD11 Aspen2 motherboard with an onboard firewire port. If you check for an "SD-11" on pricewatch you'll find info about a $5 coupon code at JustDeals.

Since it's a SlotA board it's not the hottest mobo deal you'll see, but if you're needing a SlotA replacement board, this will be a good one.

I remember a lot of people having troubles with their SD11 mobos, but I had great success with mine (didn't have firewire on mine, though). I built several systems with Slot-A processors back then, and I definately preferred the SD11 over pretty much any other board that I tried. A pretty warm deal if you need a Slot-A board.

Edited. I haven't posted in the Hot Deals forum in a LONG TIME and wasn't aware that the rules had changed.

Shipping sure can't be $12.xx it's actually $11.90 + tax which brings my total to a little over $38, not really worth it if you ask me, you can pick up a better epox board for around the same price.

FYI: This motherboard does NOT support 1Ghz Slot A Athlons even though FIC claims they do. All eBay auctions also claim it supports up to 1Ghz which is bull. I had FIC replace my first SD11 because they said I didn't have the latest revision, so I got a latest from them and it still does not support it - so after talking to the tech guys I was told "To be honest with you, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. We can't garantee it will work with 1Ghz." So don't buy it if you want to run 1Ghz on it. Other then that, it has been a very solid board for me.

Hey. The pluses on this board are that since it's an AMD chipset (751) mobo it will run the Slot T-birds. Many VIA chipset (KX133) boards won't run the T-birds over 700mhz -- over that and you're limited to the classic Athlons, which are harder and harder to find (and which have greater stability problems as they age). The onboard firewire is also a plus. Do the above-mentioned Epox mobos have onboard firewire? Or would you need a PCI firewire card to get that functionality? How much would one of those cost? Are you gonna get a new mobo AND a new firewire card for $38?

I am running an SD11 on one of my systems at the moment, with a 900mhz T-bird. Sure, it's not my "performance" or "gaming" system, but it's very solid. I'm sticking with my feeling that this is a good deal for a replacement mobo with upgraded functionality (the firewire).

Don't get me wrong. I am not thread-crapping. Just making sure that people who might jump on it are not planning on running a 1Ghz T-bird on that mb. Just a warning that you will have problems and it will not be stable (if it will boot at all). I curently do have this board and I have been running a 600 Mhz classic Athlon on it for few years already and it has been one of the most stable setups I've ever had.

Seems like they should be giving away Slot A MBs like this by now. Especially one that doesn't support Thunderbirds. If it were <$20 shipped it would probably be worth it to someone with an old Slot A CPU lying around.

Carn, one of the pluses of the AMD 751 chipset is that it DOES support the Slot T-birds. It may or may not run a 1ghz chip (a downer), but its the KX133 boards (VIA chipset) that don't run T-birds.

That's not true at all, and specifically the epox 7kxa+ can use every single processor this board can all the way up to 950mhz, and it too has problems with the 1Ghz cpus.
