Since I've always used Adblock Plus, I had never seen that ad before. I disabled the ad blockers today for a little while and .

The size of the ad doesn't seem like such a big deal, but it loads so freaking slowly AND the whole page shifts to make room two or three seconds after it loads. For God's sake, at least set the height of the page element and let the ad fill in, rather that having the page jump around like that. It has to make using the forums a nightmare for those who see the ad.

This is all that should be needed to fix the page jumping problem. I tested this using the Stylish extension in Chrome. I imagine that it works in most browswers. Find the CSS style for #header_ad (or create one).

Code:
#header_ad {
  height: 90px;
}

Ad-Block installed and forums are actually usable now without waiting 2 seconds for a page to load, and then another second for it to shift down half the screen.
I wonder if they figure most ppl have blockers so they dont worry about it...They may be targeting the GUEST GROUP with all the ads....... (Which is what most sites do (Only serve ads to the guest group))

They could just set it up so LOGGED IN USERS dont see any ads,then they can really blast the guest group.....

This has been going on for a few months at least... this isn't a hard fix! Oh well, I guess this is why ABP exists.

I made a change this evening to try to fix the issue. Please let me know how well it's working. Everything looks good in testing, but of course when has testing ever worked?

An older version of Opera, 12.17... Loads on Firefox though.

I'd just say, "Don't worry about it!"

this isnt about the add but the light blue space below the Anandtech header and the start of the forums is now 3x as large as it used to be

YES! No more clicking on one link only to have the page move down and have another link get clicked!

Thank you!

Adblock Plus can also be used to hide the large blue space. Use its 'Block element' feature, highlight the area, hit 'Enter' and it will create a custom filter.

thanks for the top nav fix guys/gals :thumbsup:

(haven't experienced the larger ads after the fix yet; will report back if i see it.)

However, i notice the left nav is now doing something similar where it starts just slightly narrower and then expands a bit. this causes some wrapping of the longer links initially and then they display on one line again and thus making the other links 'jump' (i think that's how i ended up again in Discussion Club without realizing it).
