Ok before posting this thread, I searched the forums for similar issues but didn't come across the same problem...
anyway I've been really annoyed by an issue where network browsing is very slow in windows xp...sometimes impossible.. you know...basically going through computers and folders in "my network places" to search for shared resources...sometimes machines should be sharing don't even show up in windows network and things just seem to time-out whenever i access them (workgroup not accessible...blah blah)....othertimes, i have click refresh many times and only after a few minutes do things show up...
my setup is very simple:
computer A (win xp sp3) ... network sharing enabled, windows firewall permits file sharing ... sharing my documents folder ... logged on as an admin user
computer B (win xp sp2) ... network sharing enabled, firewall permits file sharing, logged on as an admin user (but different name than computer A)
both have gig-e cards and both are hookup to a gig-e switch, both are on the same windows workgroup ... no domains here..
why on earth is everything so slow???? i've seen registry hacks while searching on google..but i tend to shy away from reg hacks as i have screwed up many computers while toying around with that
edit: just wanted to add that i am simply trying to copy files from one computer to the other...without having to resort to using RDC. I also get the "computer A is not accessible, network path not found" popup quite a bit ... ugh..
