Slow speeds

I have a 54mbps wireless router (d-link di-524) I'm getting pretty bad speeds off of it. I set up an ftp server in my desktop to test speeds and this is what i get.... with a wireless connection i get really bad speeds of only 800kps between the 2 computers. with a cable connection i get about 7500kps which sounds ok but for 100mbps i don't think its up to par. Anything i could do here? i have already upgraded my firmware and no luck. if you have any ideas please help me

If those speeds are in bytes, they don't seem that far out of line, depending on the signal quality and what encryption options you have enabled. Same comment for the wired connection. OTOH, if that's truly a bit figure, something is indeed wrong in both places...
