Slow USB Speeds with New Build

I finally got everything installed last night. The system passed 4 passes of Memtest86 and 8 hours of AIDA64 torture testing overnight. Everything seems to work except one thing...

I am getting dog slow USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 transfer rates. The USB 2.0 makes transfers at about 150k/sec. The USB 3.0 makes transfers at about 6MB/sec. I tried multiple USB drives (both 2.0 and 3.0) and different ports, and still am getting about the same transfer rates.

I am not overclocking, and I verified that the base clock is at 100MHz. I also verified that USB boost is off.

I'm worried that the board might be bad. Does anyone have any ideas about this?

Try removing the media reader and see what happens.

Have you loaded the latest drivers for the ASmedia controller?

The Asmedia controller is disabled. I'm just using the intel controller.

To me it really sounds like you are missing a driver, or one that did not install correctly. I know you have tried different drivers.

The second thing I can think of is a single device 'flooding' the controller, so to speak. Might try unplugging everything USB, including mouse, keyboard, case USB ports, and see if things improve.

I haven't seen a slow USB since years ago, and that was because the system thought it was USB 1. In my experience, USB works or it doesn't, as far as hardware is concerned.

I am not familiar with your board (yet, anyway) but you might want to give the BIOS section of the motherboard manual another run-through.

That's a really good suggestion. A misbehaving device could very well be flooding the USB controller with interrupts, thus causing it to spend most of its time handling those instead of transferring data.

Thanks again for the replies! Sorry it took awhile to respond, my system was down all weekend.

I think mfenn and ketchup79 hit the nail on the head. I even had a crash due to an IRQ conflict.

I'm only using the Intel USB 2.0/3.0 ports, so the Asmedia controller should have no effect. (Although - maybe I should be using the Asmedia controller if it's better???) I prefer to disable unneeded devices to keep things clean.

I reinstalled Win7 (a few times actually), and the USB ports are FINALLY working at normal speeds. The USB 2.0 averages about 6MB/sec, and the USB 3.0 ports average about 60 MB/sec. It must have been something goofy with the install???
