So I'm using this relatively old Dell Dimension L800r with a P3 800 MHz cpu, 512mb sdram @ pc100, and integrated Intel 82810E (32mb shared memory) on a 19" CRT @ 1280x960 resolution and 24-bit color running Windows XP Home edition. Hardware acceleration is set to the max.
The service tag from Dell is 424K501
The only drivers installed are from Intel and are from 6/8/2001, version 6.13.1.3198, which is the most up to date and best driver according to the Windows Update wizard.
The computer has very minimal video performance. It cannot play a DVD at more than 10 frames per second. Youtube and small streaming videos are alright (~320x240 resolution) but anything larger completely chokes. Even old games that played fine on older computers (like Full Throttle which runs at like 640x480) are choppy too.
Since the computer came with a dvd drive, I can't imagine that it can't play even a dvd without dropping 2 out of 3 frames. According to Dell's support page, there ARE video drivers for Windows ME (the original operating system), but none for Windows XP. The ME drivers will not install on XP.
Does anyone know what's going on? Are there drivers I'm missing?
Thanks
