Somebody asked me to look into a shop PC...should be really easy on the hardware side, but I need a relatively small case that can handle 120F operating temps and has some nice thick easy slide off foam filters that can get used and abused (then cheaply and easily replaced).

You've all seen how nasty a PC can get inside...imagine it in a filthy shop (it's a car shop, wood shop, METAL shop...don't want that in a PC). It's got to keep all the crap out really good, but still be able to cool say an i3 and a big ol' HDD.

Most cases I've seen that even offer a filter just have a thin flimsy piece of crap that only catches hair and screws in between the fan and case so it's a massive PITA to clean. Hoping for like a MITX case with a strong sturdy slide in/out clip with 1/4" foam or something (w/ 120mm+ fans). Gonna be used by a bunch of idiot grease monkeys so don't want them in the case at all. Hoping for under $100.

Actually what are some good fans that can handle the high temps and dirt/filter and run forever? Noise isn't really an issue, are ball bearings where it's at or sleeve? Don't know which direction the case/fans will be oriented...horizontal or vertical.

there are no stock cases with fantastic filtering. the typical solution for industrial applications is to go fanless.

...maybe that's why it seems hard to find what I want.

If that's really the case the only option is to have a sealed rig with water-cooling running to an automotive radiator/fan to keep things cool/clean.

Huge complicated expensive and annoying. Ugh...
There's so many times I wish I could summon up a logical product.

Fanless is the only way to go. Regardless of how good the filter material could be, fine dust particles will eventually find a way to get in. A better filter also means higher airflow restriction, which means that the filter has to be cleaned/changed frequently.

I recommend getting a low powered mITX rig to go with a case that could passively cool the CPU, something like the Akasa Euler.

actually, there's usually no watercooling - normally fanless.

The case is typically a giant aluminum heatsink and all major heat producing components sinked to it. laziness usually means IP6x (probably 67).
