small suggestion on "AnandTech Deals" locked posts in Hot Deals Forum...

The locked posts in Hot Deals by "AnandTech Deals" sure appear to be backed by AnandTech.In that reguard, it looks real bad when the company being promoted is one that has screwed over countless Anandtech Members.

I would suggest that it be changed to another company besides Tiger. Or atleast open the threads for discussion like all the other threads in Hot Deals.

In the words of an Anandtech Mod, " This is not a Hot Deal"

I was just about to post something similar, but not regarding Tiger Direct.

It seems that threads by the AnandTech Deals Scavenger are always locked, which forbids discussion on the topic.

Because they are actually advertisements.

Personally, i think its wrong to lock them up and not let us discuss the deals.

Realistically, I don't pay the bills to keep the boards up, so its not my choice - although i am a subscriber of the service.

I just saw the locked sticky of TigerDirect.com and couldnt believe it. This company has one of the worst reputations on the forum, especially after they charged many people's credit cards before they shipped anything. Posting a sticky AD for Tiger goes against the grain in the hot deals forum.

Of course, thats just my opinion....

Was just about to post the same topic. Tigerdirect has been suspected of passing around credit card numbers and other dishonest things...

Not exactally a company i think anandtech should endorse.

Not just yours . . . most Hot Dealers are aware of Tiger Direct's poor business practices (including selling their customer's personal info and their fiasco with that "free" phone card). The AT ad is also in General.

And I also agree it does not look good for AT to sponsor them so directly.

BTW, their overall resellerrating is currently a lifetime "4.07". Evidently some people have gotten good deals - but IF you need tech support or need to do a return, they are SUCK. They are no one I would ever do business with - but then I am just one of over 90K members here.

I would be tempted to take it a step further. I pay not to see ads in banners. Why do I have to see one that is disguised as a hot deal?

Ive seen some great deals on TD in the forum but each time Ive held off on it just because of their deceptive practices. I am also one that would never do business with the, unless they change their way of doing business that better takes care of the customers. Thats 2 down, 89,998 to go

I dont really mind the sticky locks, because they dont really interefere with viewing the forum, except the fact that it takes up a thread slot. As long as its a reputable company, I really dont mind.

I dont like to bitch, but I agree, Tiger is one of the most deceptive web sellars on the net and should not be promoted in any way. Its rather sickening, after all the bad things that have happened to anandtech members (including myself) by dealing with tiger direct, that they now are advertising here.
This company is a bunch of sheisters and IMO, their name should be banned like egay.

I have to admit I was surprised at the Tiger sticky this morning too. Maybe Tiger is spending money to advertise on AT now? If so hopefully they have cleaned up their act first.

I got screwed by them long before, retailerratings and etc (atleast before I knew about them). It was like 5 or 6 years ago and I bought a 56.6K modem from them and it would work in my system, the one they had on sale was a displayed as a hardware modem and when they sent me it I found out it was actually winmodem. I sent it back to them and the charged me money to send it back even though they had false advertisment. Then they sent me a magazine subscription, which I said I didn't wan't, which I had to pay for. Needless to say, I have always warned people not to buy from them, those that don't heed my warning have gotten screwed over evey time.

I have asked the mod about this and apparently the AT Deals scavenger is not their jurisdiction. They told me to contact their ad people for more information.

Personally, I'd like to be able to get "PAB's super hot special deal of the week" in the HD forum on occasion. I've been known to pull off some cool stuff.

The AT Deals may not be their jurisdiction, but other threads are. How about the mods take a proactive approach and put up a thread saying "TigerDirect will screw you" and sticky it right under the AT Deals thread? Sounds like a plan to me.
