have a CM 212 Evo w/ 120mm pwm fan
and
have a DC Assasin w/ 140mm pwm fan

while these larger fan do push more air. all the air just spill around the heatsink at the fan gap on all 4 sides opening. path of least resistance.

looking to move the 120mm fan from the 212 evo to the Assassin.
then
buying 100mm fan for the 212 evo.

with the smaller fan. air will be "force" to go through the heatsink fin instead of out and around it.

-----

anyone know where to buy 100mm or 110mm pwm fan. that size is far and few.

Yeah, I've always been surprised that more of those tower HSFs weren't shrouded. OEM PC makers have been doing custom air guides and shrouds for their machines since forever. (The Dell GX150s and 2x0s all had them.)

For a 140mm heatsink I'd get a Thermalright 900-1300RPM fan, the one used in HR-02 and others.

Make sure you get the silver aluminum one. The one in the picture is electrical tape and will come undone because of the heat.

so pathetic that end users have to resort to tape to bandage design flaw.

how hard is it to just design the heatsink around the fan.

zalman got the right idea.

most other design seem like the fan was an after thought. :\

Actually, I'm pretty sure the one in the picture is just regular duct tape, not even electrical tape.

And what you're looking for is called HVAC foil tape. Good stuff, rated for high heat, but expensive ($20 a roll!).

The one in my photo is both... And only a testbed. I have a roll of A/C tape that I'm trying next...
