Im looking for a smallest Laptop for wordprocessing, music, and internet.

Someone suggested me to buy a SOny Vaio laptop, but it is quite expensive and a bit of high-spec for only wordprocessing, internet, and music.

I havent tried apple laptop yet, but many people told me not to buy it.

PDA,,,Im using Sony Clie PDA, but it's hard to type lectures...

So anyone suggests which one is good??

Are you one of those first year students who think it'll be neat to type lectures in a notebook?

Sounds like it. Unless you go to a university that requires laptops for certain classes, trust me, you'll be annoyed as hell trying to type up the lectures and so will the people around you.

700m is a nice, cheap portable with a built-in optical drive. Can be had around $750 on sale.

I have a Dell Latitude X1 as well; was around $1200 loaded, no built-in optical drive, but it weighs around 3lbs with the extended battery.

I wouldn't go smaller than the 700m form factor, and frankly the 700m keyboard is a bit cramped.

<--still love my 700m:heart:

nothing is wrong with VAIOs except for their price

just like dell, they don't last long.

...and you know from?....

link

I assume that is a link to the notebook forums..I have it blocked out. Unless its a link to a thread of yours in the notebook forums....quite pointless.

@ my school we get laptops for the program im in. We usually download the slides and add notes to each slide, but I have a notebook in each class for miscellaneous important info we get in those classes like problems etc.
you def should use just a notebook ifyou are a 1st year student

what's your budget? if those are your daily computing need and you don't want to spend too much money, i suggest doing some research and hitting eBay for an older Thinkpad X-series model. i picked up an X22, PIII 800MHz, upgraded the RAM to 640MB, HD to 40GB 5400rpm. it has a docking station with DVD-ROM + floppy. i picked it up off of eBay for only about $450. i've been using it faithfully everyday for everything you mentioned about plus programming, web stuff, etc.

I'd recommend the HP TC1100 tablet PC. You can't get much smaller than that. I will have one for sale here soon if you are interested (financial issues, nothing wrong with it).

sharp Actius MM20 - 2 pounds get the extended battery for 9 hours!

if you need built-in optical drive get the Actius MP30 - 3 pounds.

both laptops have transmeta processors, instead of Intel or AMD, however, you did indicate that a powerful laptop is not a requirement.

The MM20 is a real attactive laptop to me...especially if you get the extended battery. You can virtually attend a full day of class without thinking about battery life.

If you need an optical drive, the Averatec AV1050 is nice. It's very similar to the Sony and Fujitsu models.

It's 3.6 lbs, about 1/2lb lighter than the 700m

It's 1.16-1.36" x 10.47" x 7.97" vs 1.5" x 11.7" x 8.5" on the 700m

The screen is smaller, 10.6" 1280 x 768 instead of 12.1" 1280 x 800. I like the matte finish on it though, because it's less reflective. It's more usable in sunlight and under florescent lights.

Battery life is over 5 hours, much like the extended battery for the 700m.

Drawback: the touchpad kinda sucks, IMHO.

I have had one Averatec, and it sucked. Battery life was poor and construction extremely cheap.
