Yes you can. I'm not sure about the warranty part of it, but otherwise you just have to make sure you have the right connectors (ie scsi cable or ide)

uhmmmmm...what warrenty? S&F are out of business. So unless the store will take the responsibility of providing their own warrenty and you actually trust them, I wouldn't worry about voiding the warrenty.

Doesn't S&F take other OEM Drives and mark it their own? If so the warranty should not be a big deal.

tangman, this is true...like the scsi 4x is a teac, the 8x scsi is a samsung, but do NOT expect these other company to take in your warrenty repairs. If you get these cdr, download the updated firmware right away.

Justdeals takes responsability for the 30 days warranty if you buy from them. They bought a huge stock of S&M from the liquidators.
The 4x4x24 SCSI is a 4x2x24 JVC. I bought one from ubid for $110 shipped some days ago and took it apart to find the manufacturer. Had I known before i wouldn't have bought it, JVC drives have a bad reputation. However, I must say that so far I haven't made any coaster yet.
The 6x4x24 instead is a ricoh. More info can be found on Mc Fadden's FAQ on CD-R.
The scsi card it comes with is a crappy ISA with no bios (i.e. not bootable) and 25 pin external connector. It's a basically a rebranded AHA 1515. It would be good only for a zip drive or a scanner.

Last I checked, the S&F 2X24 and 4X24 were JVC. (I checked 10-12 months ago, so your mileage may vary). I have the HI-Val version of the JVC 2x2x24. It is a little slow, but otherwise it has been a great drive.

dakata24: The 4x4x24 IDE model it's JVC CD-RW 4224. The SCSI model is JVC CD-RW 4224S. According to the model number, JVC considers them 4x2x24. I don't know why S&M sells them as 4x4x24. I don't have a CD-RW media at home so I couldn't test the RW speed.

They're prices are low; but customer service is the WORST of any store, and you'll be lucky if your item arrives in one piece. I once ordered a mobo from them; guess what? It arrived with the original mobo box as the shipping package! Nothing to protect it! I was lucky it worked! My co-worker ordered a laptop for her daughter next (should've learned the lesson): They shipped it in the original manufacturer box (poor insulation and protection), and even worse, on arrival there were a whole bunch of things missing (56k modem, win98 CD,), and it came with the wrong power supply. We sent them an email but THEY NEVER RESPONDED. I would only buy items from them that are low in price, and known to be durable (as I said, they seldom wrap the items properly). My 2 cents. Anyone else had experience with them?

Just so you know, the 4/2/24X made by JVC is a VERY POOR drive. I had one about a year ago and it only lasted a few months before needing surgery. It also would stop working (completely) if the system was left on for more than a few days.

im not sure about my 4x4x24 ide cdrw drive, but i was on Ahead Nero's website and they had a list of compatible cdr drives. JVC does have a 4x4x24 ide cdrw drive (model XR-W4424). i just hope mine isnt a dud.

Yes the mach 12 internal comes with a scsi card. I got mine a few months ago when best buy cleared them out at $149. Darn fine drive but doesn't have burn proof or overburn capabilities.

I would recommend a second scsi reader drive for it however to take the cpu load off for fewer coasters when multitasking. Got a refurb 32x plextor at Overstock for about $40 a while back.

EDIT--- Comes with scsi card unless these are white box units and not retail boxes!

I ordered an 8x scsi. It worked right out of the box. It did not have an adaptec controller card as I thought. It was an advansys, maybe a relabeled adaptec? It is a really slow card. The shipping took a week and they are only 30 miles away from me. They shipped ups with nothing for protection in the box. The cdr was in its original box within another larger box.
Make sure your stuff works as soon as you get it. They don't look or act too reputable.
