Smart Time to Buy New Computer

With the disaster in Japan affecting the supply of high end computer chips, etc. do you guys think it would be a smart move to purchase computer parts to build a custom PC?

Guess, the real question would be, do you think prices of computers, laptops, PC parts, etc will go up as a result of the Japan disaster? I was going to hold off until fall to build a new rig for Battlefield 3 but am pondering if I should pull the trigger now...

From what I have read, no.
The disaster in Japan has interrupted some supplies, more than the reduced demand from Japan makes up for.

Add to that, if you're looking Intel, the Sandy Bridges are just coming out.

You might find that come the summer the Sandies are out in force, and the usual summer doldrums might cause manufacturers to reduce prices.

EDIT:
On the other hand, you might find a bargain in a Core i-series Clarkdale or Lynnfield as they are being cleared out.

I guess it works differently for everyone. I give my old hardware to relatives so I'm not looking to get any money from it when I plan for upgrades.

btw interesting a whole bunch of things were out of stock on Newegg for a couple of three days. They didn't show as out of stock, but when you added them to your cart it told you it was out of stock.

I had a few things marked to notifiy me when they were in, and just yesterday a whole bunch of emails came. I would guess the supply chain did get interrupted and Newegg was overwhelmed with parts not in stock they couldn't keep up the website.
