I was having some problems in OS X 10.9 Mavericks with my Synology NAS recently, but it turns out there is an update for it. I updated to it yesterday and so far my file transfer issues are gone completely. I never had these problems in Mountain Lion 10.8.

I also enabled SMB 2 on the NAS and I managed to hit 112.5 MB/s (900 Mbps) on the NAS with a 15 GB file transfer to my laptop (which has an SSD). I've been over 100 MB/s but I don't think I've hit that high before, although I haven't done formal testing.

Have you guys noticed faster speeds with SMB 2 on Mavericks? What about reliability? I can't say much about the latter because it's only be active half a day now.

Had to disable SMB2 and force SMB because it was wrecking havok with my work's shared drive.

Not sure if it's entirely related to this or not, but I had a strange situation after I updated my rMBP to Mavericks. (Only machine in our house running it.)

After the update: every time Mavericks accessed SMB shares on my home-built NAS box running Windows 7 x64, thereafter every comp running Mountain Lion couldn't connect. (All of our Hacks, and my wife's MacBook Air).

This remained until a reboot of the NAS, but then would happen again after Mavericks connected.

It was a strange little glitch. I couldn't find any info about it.

I don't even remember how, but somehow I stumbled across this:
http://lastplaceonthe.net/fix-error-36-mac-os-accessing-windows-7-shares/

I wasn't getting Error 36, but I figured I'd give the registry change a shot anyway in the hope it might be related... and lo and behold, it worked. Not a single SMB glitch ever since- both Mavericks and Mountain Lion accessing my NAS with no problems, not a single NAS reboot in weeks.

Update:

So far my Synology NASes have been working fine with 10.9 (iMac Core i7, MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo), but that was after the Synology software update. (I have two Synology NASes: DS413, and DS211j, both running the latest DSM 4.3 3810 version, which includes the OS X 10.9 bug fix.) They also continue to work fine with my 10.7 Lion MacBook. I haven't tried them with my 10.4 & 10.5 G4 Macs though, since I rarely use them these days.

Zaap, which NAS do you have? Have you tried just forcing SMB1 instead like gus6464 did? I note that if you use cifs://servername when you Connect to server it should force SMB1 in 10.9 Mavericks. I never tried that in my setup though, since the better fix in my case was to update the NAS... and I think I may have gotten a small speed boost too. If real, I'm not sure if it's due to optimizations in the NAS OS update or if it's due to SMB2. I'm guessing the latter. Mind you, it was already fast to begin with, at well over 100 MB/s. Now it's 112.5 MB/s.

SMB2 was a big focus in 10.9. Originally it was going to be the default networking protocol in 10.9.

Mine is just a PC running Windows 7, stuffed with hard drives. I just call it a NAS because it's headless, resides in a media closet, and that's it's main use.

The problem I was having wasn't related to speed (luckily that's always been speedy, and continues to be) just the strange behavior of Mavericks doing something (possiblySMB2 related?) that kicked all Mountain Lion machines off the NAS. At any rate, the reg hack I found solved it. I think it makes Win 7 behave more like a server OS for file-sharing.
