SMC 16 Port 10/100 Switch - Deal Killed - No longer Buy One Get One Free - Post updates here

No, If there wasnt a free switch it would be the same deal as the Linksys. I dont know which is better I just know the linksys is a little smaller and it looks a little nicer but you cant beat 2 switches for $139. Does anyone know which is better or is it really a opinion choice?

Big difference is that the Linksys cannot be rack-mounted like the SMC can. That's a big plus in my book. When the wife and I get our house, I'm putting a rack in the Garage to run all my home automation stuff. Being able to rack-mount the switches is a big deal.

Well, by their previous item description the buy one get one free was if you buy 10 you get 10 free. Why would I think this? Because I bought 3 of them about 3 weeks ago and got 3 free. Why would they change the terms of their deal? Anyway, I haven't listed mine so I am just going to send them all back if they don't give all the free ones to me.

I called this morning about these and the CSR said they was all on back order and that there was a buttload ,not her words, on backorder. For some reason they got all the orders over the weekend she said! LOL

This is a nice switch in a metal housing. The Linksys is plastic. You can rack mount it. It also comes with rubber feet that you can stick to the bottom to set it on a desk or something. Or, you can flip the brackets 90 degrees and mount it flat to a wall, like I did, in a telephone closet. Made a really clean install.

I like the construction of the switch. The rack mount kit is a major plus also. The internal power supply is a very nice feature that I grew to love in my 5 port switch. Now I hope I get one and not be put on BO. I once sat on BO for about 2 months on a hot deal at Onvia. I really need this switch soon.

UPDATE!!! Any orders placed over the weekend will not ship until the end of the month. When I called the CSR knew what I was talking about straight off the bat, because so many people had been calling. They are on major backorder...

What about those of us who ordered and paid extra for 2nd day air shipping ?

I figured there would be a rush on these and this seemed about the only way to move closer to the front of the waiting line. I only ordered 1 (plus 1 free one, hopefully). I'll hold onto the 2nd one until the current wave of these clears the air on fleabay (I have good feedback rating) or put it up on the FS/Trade Forum right here. I'll probably look to get about $100 + shipping for the 2nd one which means that I'll get mine for around $43. I can live with that.

btw, does anyone know how this switch performs compares to a Netgear one? I have an 8-port switch from netgear and I love the thing, except for the fact that it's external powered.

You'll just have to excuse me whilst I laugh at those of you that had listed your extra switch(es) BEFORE you even had a shipping notification. Apparently, someone's parents forgot to teach their children not to count their chickens before they hatched. Even a tracking number doesn't guarantee that Buy.com didn't screw up and not ship BOTH switches.

Personally, I think that the drive to make a quick buck on this board has begun to corrupt it, and it's pretty much destroyed FleaBay as well. I'm somewhat glad that a few of you are learning this lesson, ESPECIALLY those of you who are under-18, which I suspect is quite a few. Don't list it until you have possession. If you're afraid the market will get flooded, well, it probably wasn't that good a deal to begin with now, was it?

People, the purpose of this board was to SAVE us all money, not MAKE us all money. Using this board to become fly-by-night resellers reduces the value of the board (and deals) for all of us. And those of you looking to resell before you even have the items, well, that's the text-book definition of FRAUD. Just do us a favor ... don't take the person's money until you physically have the switch.

I bought both switches for what they were, a great way to start a home network for the house we are currently shopping for. No resale, just a great deal. If they come through, great! If not, no big deal, since Buy.com doesn't charge until the order ships. No harm, no foul.

Take this as a lesson learned. Kill your FleaBay listings, and just go with it. OR do the right thing, and tell the buyer that you won't have the switch for a while, and give them the option to back out. But for the love of Mike, don't take the money until you can ship the product.

I agree with the first part of your statement. The second part of it is why there's an E-bay and why it is healthy and one of the few successful dot.com business models.

What's wrong with buying two and selling the extra one on E-Bay or the street corner for that matter. Guess we'd all feel better if they'd buy it for $299.00 somewhere else instead of $ 160.00 or less as I see listed now.
