Just got email from the order status people at buy.com which included the following: "We have, however, received an estimated time of arrival from them" (the manufacturer) "and expect your product to ship in 7-8 weeks. Please note that this date is only an estimate and is subject to change".

Those of you who got one or both of the switches can thank your lucky stars. The rest of us will just have to be depressed and switchless.

Got my free switch... still waiting for the one I paid for. Be about 3 more weeks from what I can gather. But on the bright side, the switch is silent (no fan) and works great (faster than the 10/100 integrated switch in my Ugate 3200 router). All this despite UPS doing their best to destroy it. Only draw back is cable management if you aren't rack mounting it. Jacks in front makes for an ugly mess. When are they going to figure out how to do jacks in the front and back?

Chexi,

I'l tell you for a fact that every network admin I know (including myself) prefers the jacks in front. if you have a decent rack, cable management isn't an issue. Having jacks in the back makes them impossible to get to if you have the switch rackmounted.

If you were concerned about front mounted jacks, well, why did you buy the switch?

I think Chexi makes a very good point. Not everyone uses a rack (thats why the rack mounts are removable). Just because you buy something does not mean you have to like everything about it. My guess is the easiest way to solve the jack problem would be just to put power cord plugs on both the front and back. That way network admins would have what they wanted, and us serious home users would not have a mess of wires.

i am not a network admin.. and my router Netopia R9100 has ports in the back and i hate it.. i mean my linksys hub has them in the front and its so easy for my networked house.. i guess its all a matter of prefrence and i also like that they are in the front.. also if you are running patch pannels it would suck to run the wires around the back..

If you're running patch panels you run the STATION cables to the BACK of the patch panel, then you run cross-connects from the FRONT of the patch panel to the front of the switch. That's why switches are front-mount. Most home-network setups are run with hubs, not switches. Most hubs set their ports to run out the back. If you're running a home network, you really don't need the horsepower of a switch, a hub will work just fine, in which case you can have the "rear-entry" ports.

Im pretty fùcking toked right now. I just got the email that it will be 4-6 weeks til they can ship them. What kind of bullshìt is this. I WAS PROMISED MY SECOND SWITCH TO SHIP BY THE 16TH! I called buy.com they couldnt do anything. Im fed up. No longer will I be a customer to buy.com. I am going to file with the BBB and if anyone is starting up like a class action law suit let me in! I urge everyone that is pissed to at least file with the BBB.

Dude, chil out. How do you expect Buy.com to stock several thousand of those switches? They are delayed because SMC cannot get the switches to Buy.com warehouses until the later date.

If you're dead set on filing a complaint with the BBB or a class-action lawsuit then file it with SMC not Buy.com since the manufacturer cannot keep up with the demand of the product. Buy.com is only the middle man, if they don't have the product to ship the only thing they can do is call their supplier and complain to them.

Why don't you call Buy.com's CEO and see if he's willing to go in with you and file a lawsuit with SMC....yea, that'll go over like a lead ballon.

Just calm down... I don't think you're world will come to a schreeching halt because you don't have this switch, but if it does let me know where you live because don't want to be anywhere near you when it does stop...LOL

Just got one of mine. My mail server (mailandnews.com) has been down for 5 days, so I have no idea what updates buy.com has sent since them. I'll wait until I can get back into my email system before I contact them. Also going to sign up for a new mail server, as I can't take my primary account being down with no warning for almost a week (and all mail sent to the account is discarded according to the mailandnews home page right now - that's good customer service).

Buy.com has been nice enough to fix their error and send us the free switches. I think they handled the situation very well! Only an idiot would now go and file with the BBB or start a class action suit!

Rotten SOB's still haven't shipped my FIRST switch..it's been 3 weeks. I was promised one last week to no avail..I will seriously consider buying something this good again from buy.com...and Yes i can appreciate their effort to keep up demand.

I haven't seen either of my two switches. CS just sent me an e-mail (reply to my inquiry) that it'll be 4-5 weeks. The website says "ships in 24-48 hours". Anyone know which is correct?

I wont chill out whoever is complaining. I did file with the BBB. They promised me a switch by the 16th and were unable to fufill that promoise, so I filed. Call the CEO, right...they will just let me talk to him. SMC should not be filed aginst, they have done nothing wrong.

And to the HyKeTesh up there, you seem to be confused. They did not fix an error, they decided to honor the price on there web page after 2 weeks, and ship the product a half a month after it should have been received. And now they refuse even that.

mastarecoil, it's bbb.org, they aren't affiliated with the government or any gov. agency. They are pretty much a scam.. they look official, take complaints, do nothing. Charge businesses hundreds of dollars per year to operate a voice mailbox. Pathetic how well they've been able to convince people that they're so almighty.

My bad, it is org. But they are pretty helpful. A crappy computer company sold my dad a computer that was overclocked. They were bankrupted after a few reports filed threw the bbb. You can get results.

Mastarecoil - Gee, I bet you get pissed off at BurgerKing if someone orders after you and they get their food before you do....

Calm down and realize that Buy.com did not expect this much response to the deal. And when they decided to honor the deal to everyone that ordered before the cut-off date they planned a few things poorly.

From a business stand-point they have several options:

1) Fill as many orders 100% and wait for their vendor to supply them with more stock. Ths would make many very happy as they have all of their order and lots more mad becuase they have to wait so long.

2) Fill as many orders as possible with 1 of the 2 switches, and when more stock arrives continue filling orders till everyone got 1 of the 2, and then start at the beginning again fillign the FREE switch for everyone. Thereby probably pissing everyone off and keeping lots of orders hanging open.

Either way they do this someone was bound to get pissed off...So even though you filed with the BBB all the BBB is going to do is call Buy.com and ask them "What's the deal". Buy.com will respond with "...due to the high volume of orders for this product..." and "...orders will be filled as soon as possible..." and "... The customers satisfaction is a very high priority for us, and we are sorry for the delay..." Just because Buy.com didn't send you switch out on time doesn't mean they are trying to screw you over...If they wanted to screw people over they would not have agreed to honor the deal in the first place.

But since you DID file with the BBB, Buy.com is going to be very cautious in the future with any and all offers. just look at the Coupons they used to offer... so many people abused them Buy.com stopped using them for an undetermined amount of time. So, you may have just screwwed the entire hot-deals forum over by being hot-headed and filing the complaint.

I bet no one is going to get there switches because buy.com is going to keep delaying them until they file for chapter eleven, at which point there no longer responsible for there finances.

rgroves makes a very good point. You guys shouldn't try to screw over Buy.com since they are in fact honoring the 2 for 1 deal.

mastarecoil you should not have the mentality to screw Buy.com since they didn't give you your switch in time. Originally, Buy.com didn't have to honor the promotion since they have legal text that protects them for misprints and stuff (due to previous experience with a certain monitor). Also, your attitude is similar to the people's attitude who went in looking for the OfficeMax Hot Deal, and didn't find it, but kept on persisting with it, thus finally causing a member on this board (who supplied the deal) to lose his job. That "I'm gonna get my deal no matter what" attitude doesn't help at all, but insteads leads to the decrease of the hot deals and the people willing to post about them.

Of course, this is only my opinion.

Hey, Thanks Junthin. At least one person who reads these threads agrees with me.

The way I look at this Buy.com deal is if they ship it - COOL. If they don't I'm not out any money becuase Buy.com won't charge your CC unless the item ships. And if they only ship one of the items, and cancel the free one, then I'll call them and get angry with them... But until then... It's just wait and see.

I 3rd that rgroves. I haven't gotten my first switch yet either, but I am not worried. Buy.com tried to make everyone happy by honoring the deal, but there is no pleasing some of you.
