On the subject of smc wireless, does anyone know if this card is supported under linux? I know that the 2632W is supported by smc themselves, but on the website, the 2635 only has driver downloads for windows.

The card is only 35.00 as it is if you can pick it up. That is a good deal in its self.

Warning, though: Rebate goes to New Rochelle!

Have you dealt with TCA lately? They are really trying to clean up their act - even have an employee resolving issues on the Obese Currency Container rebate forum.

Yes, some of the of companies they fulfill rebates for take forever to pay, but that is beyond their control. There are some at Parago (rebateshq.com) that can take a while, or cause problems as well.

*cough* ahem
Rebate: $20.00 Rebate Check.
Rebate Information For: -------- ----------- ######
Promotion: $20 Rebate on Value Disc or KHypermedia CDR 32x80Min 700MB 200pk ((SEVEN DAY OFFER ONLY!!))
Submission Type: ON-LINE
Date Received: 03-30-2003
Status: Processing Rebate

I got that just a few seconds ago off the REBATESHQ tracking site, it's been like that since March. It's really starting to tick me off, I don't usually call in about rebates, but this is really testing me. Just to show you any company will take up an excuse to keep your money.

I got this card about a week ago and my gateway labtop doesn't seem to like it? XP pro threw up some warning messages about not being certified by microsoft when I was installing the drivers? I checked their website for some new drivers and they had some but when I download either the exe or zip they both give me an error message about crc checking invalid and refuse to install?

Anyone have similar issues?

Limit 1 rebate per product, offer, person, receipt, household, family or address.

I guess they really want to cover the bases.

hmm.... i went to the microcenter in tustin today because they received their shipments today... and i got myself one of these cards. i also had a $5 coupon off $25over and it rung up to be 29.99 + tax. so if i get a $25 dollar rebate... it will make the final price to be $7.31! awesome!

If I recall correctly, the wlan-ng drivers should work. It's not listed on the hardware compatibility site though, so it's a run for your money. I think this card is Prism2 based, and if so, should be good to go. Hardware List for Wlan-ng

Look under ADM8211, which is the chipset this SMC card uses. All wireless cards using the ADMTek ADM8211 base their driver packages off of these reference drivers.

That's a good little ad. I don't have an MC store close here, in the Seattle area, so I've just been an observer of these postings. But I bought a Dell Latitude CPx laptop recently, and I'd love to find a CDRW/DVD slimline module to upgrade it. The STORiX USB2 fits the bill. Since it's front loading, this would probably work as an external USB, as the basis for a Dell module assembly, or as a slimline for a rackmount server. For the laptop, I'll just have to remove the CD from the one I've got and could sell the CD inside as a slimline for a rackmount.

Uh, why didn't you call after the 8 weeks it states on the rebate form was up? It's not that difficult to do...

Thanks for the info, I just picked up a dell truemobile 1150 (orinoco rebranded), hopefully that works, and I can get one of these to have all of my machines covered.

Getting very crappy performance on a Gateway notebook running XP Home but works well on my Sony VAI running 2K. Notice an earlier Gateway user having some problems. Anybody else experience issues with this card?

What gateway do you have Doug? Mine is the 400 S (VTX) 2.0 GHZ.

I have two D-Link DI-614+, one at my girlfriends, and one at my parents, and then a cisso aironet 340 at my apt. This card seems funky on all three? I actually got it to connect at my apt for longer than 2 mins last night. I seriously have to play around with it for 5-10 mins before it will get a connection and let me surf.

I have the latest drivers from 6-13-03 and am I my wits end as to trying to figure out whats up with this card.

I also noticed that my notebook has a pcmcia adapter by O2micro oz6912 cardbus controller listed in the device manager, along with this SMC 2625 listed inder the network adapters.
What is this o2 device?

Thanks for the info. It sounds like this card may not be somewhat hit and miss.

I have a D-Link DWL-650 (v3) with ADM8211 chipset on my linux 9.0 box. The driver works great! I am very satisfied with the signal qualities and power consumptions. I have worked with other chipset based cards... adm8211 is highly recommanded.
