smc barricade 7004abr not connecting anymore

alright, quick question:

had the barricade for many months now and has work flawlessly with earthlink's pppoe. suddenly, it wouldnt connect anymore. flashed to newest firmware and tried to login again and doesnt work. connected computer directly to cable modem and can connect so it's not the isp provider. changed the cable running from barricade to modem and still not working.

any hints? could it have overheated? next step may be to ask earthlink if they changed from pppoe to dynamic ip (like some providers)

Is Earthlink requiring MAC address resolution for security purposes? Do you have your router spoofing the MAC address of the computer that will hook up fine?

quick answer.

people run into barricade 70004abr DEAD after a few months, probaly that's why.
they encounter the light is always on and blah blah, check out that website, particallynetwork.com ....... forgot how to spell it
and go look under this smc router and read the user review on it, you will see a lot dead barricade.

At least that is what i think ........ cuz i have earthlink too, im fine with my linksys , and i put my barricade in the back just as for the wireless capciability.

hmm...i have to look into the MAC issue.

as for dead SMC, that sucks. well, i'm using the linksys again until i figure out the SMC. thanks for the input.

Not sure if this is related incident but my SMC7004ABR also stopped working all of the sudden. All LAN port lights would turn on, as if the router resets itself every 20 seconds or so. Resetting the router by pressing the Reset botton in the front panel seems to solve the problem for me.

Wow, I've never heard of all these SMC problems. I've never had a problem with mine. Had it for over two years, now. Maybe it's the new ones that are having all the problems.
