Testing my Barricade FireWall with a site like ? Shields Up? yields excellent results.
Just for the sake of it, I left @Guard (the parent software of Norton's FireWall) ON in learning mode.
What I found?
Every few days I get some attempts of unwanted communication that is not blocked by the Barricade.
On the opposite side the software Firewall alerts me to programs that ?Call Home?. Some controlled calling home is necessary, but I feel more comfortable to know about it, and allow or disallow it.
At a certain point, I disabled the software Firewall, and I measured few times my Down Load, and surfing speed. I did not find any significant difference with or without the software FireWall.
I don?t mind that the software takes few MB sitting in the tray bar, since amount of Dynamic Memory is not a concern any more (it so inexpensive that I can stick in as much as my computer will take).
I would suggest keeping the Software Firewall ON.
