YMMV but many Circuit Citys have the Linksys 54G for $30.99 btw.
I nabbed one in Westland, MI today and they had like 7 left.

I have had this router before...SMC is pretty reliable for their routers... performance for me was outstanding.. I was only in a 1000 cubic foot apartment though... so I couldnt test long range signal.

I bought the exact router from Microcenter to replace my Netgeat 802.11b router.
I think I'm too use to the Netgear setup page, so I don't really like the SMC router's setup page.
The next day, I went back to Microcenter and returned it.

I have a 'cousin' of this router, the 2804WBRP-G. The signal quality/strength on it is great. It sits on the back wall of my living room/den and can reach through three rooms (living room, kitchen, and bedroom) so I can use the laptop outside. I still have full speed/signal on the laptop. This is a great price!

I have a friend who swears by SMC products, priced low, works great he says. This is hot, I'm going to pick one up, I need one for a future apartment. May I reiterate that I have never used one personally, but I suppose I trust my friend's word, I tell him that I live by D-LINK's DI-624's, but that's just me, in the end, as long as it's reliable, then what's the big deal?

Anybody use this as a Wireless Access point? I already have a router, but I'd like to hook this up to my XBox and use my cable modem, which is connected to the other router. Is that possible, or do I need to plug this router directly into the modem?

What you are looking for is a bridge. And thats a no. This thing isn't a bridge. If it is supported by 3rd party firmware, it could be a bridge.

Is the new version any better with new features,fixes or just a refresh. I looked on the web site and did not find any firmware updates for this model and the G2 was not even listed. There was an WBR14T-G which does have firmware updates.

Bought this router for a friend a couple months back for $5 after rebates from newegg.

3 step e-z setup was a joke, but who needs it. Manual config wasn't horrible. Good security, good range (in her duplex - i haven't tested it but i could tomorrow and see how far i can go and still get a decent signal). I'd buy another one. I wish I had bought another when it was only 5$ AR so I could've had one too! Kicking myself now.

I don't use that exact model but one close to it. After my first couple of Linksys' died a few years ago i swore off of them and have only used SMC since. Never had one problem with any of their routers, great equipment and easy to use.
