I did it !!!
Thanks Rizzo ......

I ended up getting the last 2 in Rockford, IL. I am in the process of setting it up now. Already ran into an issue when it was installing VR on my Windows ME machine.

Anyone interested in trading for my second unit .... drop me a line.
Looking for maybe a PS2 trade ? Each pay each others face value ?
CompUSA in Downer's Grove is the only store in IL that still has stock. All for the $199 for system / $79 for handset.
Any idea where they can be had cheaper locally for the headset and handsets ?

<< You'll need to buy a couple of gadgets for the system, and it's best to dedicate a spare computer to work as a server. However, in return you'll get a package that has as many functions as a $10,000 office system. >>

seems like a lot to me, unless you were considering a $10,000 office system

i'm happy with a digital 2.4ghz with caller id and digital answering machine

I know several of you have said that they will trade a couple of handsets for a base unit, but would any of you consider just selling one of your extra base units for like $30-$40 to a poor fellow "Deal Seeker" who wasn't as fortunate as yourself to get one? I know most of you probably have them spoken for or are prepping them for e$ay but I thought I would ask and hope someone is feeling that X-mas spirit.

This is my first post, I hope I'm doing this right.

Don't give up on CompUSA just yet. I went to one store in the Minneapolis area, where the CSR told me that these had been discontinued and no stores would have any in stock despite what the website inventory stated. Undaunted, I tried another store where a very friendly CSR told me that they had one handset left. He matched the OD price based only on my word of mouth (no phone calls to prove stock or anything!). After further questioning, he did ackowledge that he had at least a couple of defective (read: returned for any reason) units in the back, waiting to be sent for destruction or wherever these things go. The first unit really did have a defective handset. The second was completely intact.

I got the impression that he would have sold these at any price just to get them out of his sight. If there is anyone in the Minneapolis area looking for a base set (software included), there is still one at the Minnetonka store.

I just went by the local CompUSA today after my friend had bought 4 handsets yesterday for $40ea (marked down from $80). The same manager wouldn't sell me any handsets or base units for any price other than full price because they haven't issued a clearance on the items and if they price match or discount then it goes against that particular store's profits. But, keep an eye out folks, he said for me to check back with him in a week and they would most likely be moving the rest of their inventory out due to Cygnion's bankruptcy. He said the lowest he could go on the items would be $40 for the handsets and $90-100 for the base units. Still not a bad deal for those who need additional handsets.

Frank Rizzo: I'm ordering batteries from Thomas Distr. but where do you find the connector? I tried RatShack and they didn't have any of those. Any ideas?? Reply here or to drait@lemures.net Thanks

well i managed to drive 70 miles today and picked up two base units and two extra handsets, and to make it even better, the store honored the 15 off 50 with only the code itself. By the way, I'm in Louisiana.

<< Gov: Arrrggg I have a headset and it keeps asking for the backdoor code, which is the IPEI (which is the S/N under the battery) I enter the code and nothing happens. WTF am I doing wrong. The phone is useless unless I can get the backdoor code to work. Any help would be appreciated. Reply here or e-mail me at guy227@home.com >>

Gov, I had this same problem tonight when setting up my CG handset. I was fiddling around with the PIN stuff and found the Show IPEI menu and then it freaked on me and locked me out (much in the same manner as yours most likely). I did what you suggested which was entered the S/N that is under the battery, hit Yes, and voila it then prompted me for a new PIN. Enter in a new handset PIN twice and it should be ready to go. You have to enter in the entire S/N, including all the leading zeros.

If you'd like more info on this email me at drait@lemures.net

Good luck

Drait: I didn't find the 'exact' connector, but here are a few sites that let you pick you battery pack and connector type:

Batterybarn Advanced Dantona

I didn't look too hard either but I don't think I'll bother with the above though, the batteries from Thomas (or elsewhere) are surely of higher capacity.

For the connector I'll either solder directly onto the contacts OR another idea would be to use something you have laying around - like a CDrom audio cable - remove the metal inserts from the plastic connector and use a few to connect to the phone.

Teekster,
Do you know who you talked to at the Minnetonka Store? I would like to try and pick up that "defective" handset if it's still available.
Thanks

Thanks Frank Rizzo! I'll probably do the same with the Thomas Dist. batteries since they're 650mAHs.

Actually, while looking on that one site that you posted FR (Dantona) the connector "X" (Radio Shack) looks very similar. I'll have to hit the local RatShack in person and see if I can find any of those connectors on their shelves. I kind of like the ability to swap out additional packs if/when needed.

Dang it! Everytime OD has these super deals, the stores are all out of stock and they are unable to get more.... For those like me in the Dallas - Ft Worth area, I found one store in Arlington (the one at Randoll Mill and hwy 360) had ONE yesterday and it was sold. Same thing with the phoneline network kit I tried to trace down last week, and the Interact V-4 Force Feedback wheel the week before. ALL GONE! I did however manage tonight to get one of the Afga CL-18 cameras ($15 after rebate and coupon) at the same Arlington store, and used the $15 off $50 coupon found in another thread. For anyone in DFW that wants in on this deal, The Irving OD had 4 Afgas left at 5pm.

Is there any way we can get these OD clearance deals as soon as they are announced???? Now I need to hunt down this linksys wireless network...

Apoptosis,

I spoke with Sean at CompUSA in Minnetonka. I bought the dead handset from him with the idea that I could fix it and use it in my system. The headset connector is rattling around in side and the unit thinks there is a headset attached. What I left was a base unit.

You might want to try and see if Sean could hook you up with inventory at another store. Bloomington said that they didn't have any, but the CSR there was useless. I didn't try any others, but one of the St Paul suburb stores had >20 units listeds on their website as of Thursday.

Good Luck

I bought Cybergenie for $20 at Fry's in Woodland Hills, but the cd and handset battery were missing. Does anyone know where I can download the program that came w/ Cybergenie? I'd greatly appreciate if someone can post it on a ftp server or somethin'. If I can't find any replacement batteries, I'm gonna have to return them. TIA!!

For those who are still looking in my area, I've checked Compusa and Fry's in addition to all the OD in the valley. They're all gone!
