Funny that this was posted. A couple of weeks ago, my roommates and I were going to switch over to AT&T. My fiance called to cancel her sprint first, and here's what she was offered:

1300 anytime
3000 N&W
500 pcs to pcs
(all long-distance)
Keep 1st incoming minute
$200 credit toward new phone
(she got the color sanyo 5150)
for $50/mo

My other roomates got the same deal, with the phone credit varying depending on how long they were a customer. They had to bitch and moan, and give them my fiance's phone # to look up the deal, but they got it.

Of course, being a sprint customer for much longer than her, I called and tried, but I could not because I got a company discount. So, being the stubborn person I am, I cancelled my service in a fit of rage. After I got myself together again, I called and reactivated it, then cancelled the discount, called back, and got the deal too, but I didn't push for the phone credit like I should have.

<< this isnt a "hot deal" ... its just WRONG... >>

BruinBill, I feel sorry for you. If you're not willing to negotiate for better prices, you must waste LOADS of money paying retail price for cars, getting the highest interest rates on credit cards, etc. I'm surprised you even bother reading these threads, since your line of thinking makes most of the deals posted here just WRONG.
>>

I think his issue is with people who actually haven't had bad service (dropped calls, poor reception, etc.) and end up lying just to get the deals. i.e. how many people, if not offered the "hot deals" and had been getting good service, would actually go through the inconvenience of dropping sprint service, changing to another carrier, etc.?

Guess if you've gotten crappy service and/or are up front with what you say ( "Well, I've had good service but I wanna better deal on my cell service, what are you going to offer me?" ) then you're kosher.

I did this in October and got the free QCP-6035 Smartphone, $80 service credit to buy a data cable and a free month of service ($30). Then I activated online ($20? credit), gave my old phone to my wife and then cashed in on her as a "referral" ($30 credit). Of course, she activated online too, so we got more money.

Later, when the $30 per month, 200 anytime 2800 N/W came around I switched to that, turned on the Wireless Web and now I can browse the Internet and write E-mail while my wife shops! God, I love this Palm phone.

At the end of the day, everyone wins. Sprint gave me some free stuff and some service credits, but now both my wife and I are Sprint mobile customers. I feel no guilt whatsoever.

This is actually reaching SprintPCS Retension services designed to keep long time customers who aren't on contract not to switch. I have their direct number, but I'm not going to publish it. You can find it all over the usenet. The deal I got is 1300 anytime minutes with nationwide long distance, 3000 night and weekend minutes starting at 8pm, and SprintPCS Wireless Web for $50/month and a $300 credit towards a new phone. Keep in mind you have to sign a contract for a year. I ended up getting the 2.29oz Sanyo SCP-6000 thin phone. I love using it to check my corporate (Exchange/Domino) mail using SprintPCS Business Connection Personal Edition, which is free for the first 50,000 that sign up.

Sure, you can do that, but from what I hear the real problem is that Sprint PCS DOES have bad service, that's why they give these deals.... I'd rather have reliable, clear cell service than a bunch of crappy service I can't rely on.. plus you have to beg and whine to get it at those prices.. just a thought.

Hehe. Just called Sprint and got like $100 service credit. I do have terrible service and the guy I talked to gave me one month free service and a $50 credit to upgrade my software and try it out for a month.
Not bad.

<< And switching plans, as others have mentioned, will move your night/weekend (off-peak) time forward to 9pm (instead of 7 or 8, whichever you might have from a grandfathered plan). You'll also lose the first incoming minute free, etc. if your old plan had that option(s). Also, your contract is extended for a full year from the date you switch plans, so be wise. >>

Two out of three ain't bad.

Actually, a friend of mine who had a crappy plan (180 anytime, 500 N&W) for $35/month with 1st incoming minute free (but no long distance) with Sprint called them them up about a month ago and threatened to cancel. They upped his minutes to 330 anytime, 2500 N&W, including long-distance, first incoming minute free, and 8pm N&W starting time. I'm going to try to bargain for that, or one of the ones posted above, this Monday, when I officially come out of contract.

Which is great. Thanks again.
>>

Umm... so you got upped 250 anytime minutes but got docked 1000 N&W minutes? Or is that a typo?

<< I dont think i can get a job at sprint im not a minority. And dont speak spanish either. Im in delaware, somehow it's turning into mexico. >>

Bitter much?

...So, do you have the hood and robe on when posting to AT, or is that just for formal meetings?

This was easy!

I just called and told them I was thinking of switching to another carrier and wanted to know what plans they have available to keep me as a customer. They offered the 650/3000 for $35.99. I'm on hold now and I'm gonna ask about new phone options as well. I'm happy with the extra 350 anytime minutes for only $6 more than I currently pay, but I WOULD like a new or at least discounted phone. They didn't offer me any deals on phones (I asked) but was told that Best Buy and others have deals that I can check. Oh well...

I called *2 and when the automated system asked me to speak my question, I said that I want to cancel my service. That sent me to a rep and I explained to her that I've had my existing plan for a couple of years and am thinking about cancelling the service to go with another provider to get a btter rate plan, but wanted to find out what current plans they had available to keep me as a customer before i switched. She immediately offered the 650/3000 plan, which I probably too eagerly accepted. It wasn't until she was already processing the plan change that I realized I had forgotten to mention the phone/service credit thing.

DanielNTX,

How in the world were you able to get a $300 credit towards a new phone. What exactly did you tell the CS? that's insane. What service plan did you have before and how long were you a customer for.

I just got 500 anytime 3000 night/weekend (starting at 8pm) for 34.99. With $70 credit for new phone. .25 for minutes going over plan. I just said I was considering going to another carrier and wanted to know if they had anything good to keep me on. She said she would see, and told me they have a button they press to configure the best offer for each person's usage. I had been going over slightly with my service, so I'm pumped about getting the extra time and the 70 buck credit.

I didn't do any wine-ing or anything, I just shot straight with her, and she did the same for me. My old plan was 200 anytime and 1000 night/weekends for 5 bucks cheaper.

I called last night and the operator only would quote me their published rates. I called again today and said I wanted to cancel because I can get better rates at Verizon. I had 250/1250 minutes $39.99. He only offered me an additional 150 anytime minutes. I then said that Verizon gave 3000 weekend minutes. He then offered me 500/3000 minutes for $35.99. I then mentioned that people I knew were getting 650 anytime minutes. He went to talk to a supervisor and then said I could get 650/3000 for $35.99. I asked if I could get some deal for a new phone. He said only if I was willing to change my number. I skipped on that and took the minutes. Not bad. Thanks.
