Sorry I don't have a link, I just saw it on this week's ad. Price good thru Saturday August, 23rd.
Be wary though, some computer configurations don't like the Creative drivers. (I.E. mine, etc...)

Nah.....for $10 I'd rather have it today. I bought a regular Audigy2 last week for $129 from BB, so I exchanged it for the Platinum version. I'm really excited about it having inputs for my electric guitar And yes, it is an instant rebate WOOT!

BTW- for those of us with black cases, you can get screwed out of $20 for the black faceplate for the internal drive HERE.

Go to Circuit City and pricematch the Platinum and get it for $122.99. Also I pricematched the regular Audigy 2 to either Best buy or CompUsa (They both have it on sale) and got it for $75.99. Also pricematch the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz from Compusa and get it at Circuit City for $36.00. I ended up buying the Platinum and the regular Audigy 2 for both of my computers.

I've been using the Audigy2 Platinum for a while and I noticed that the Audigy2 driver seems to behave much better than the previous creative drivers (I've used soundblaster live gamer and live 5.1 before, both drivers tend to cause irq conflicts with other devices.) It's certainly a good reason to upgrade to the audigy2 if you're using the sb live.

BTW, this is a great deal for the Audigy2 Platinum. I got mine for $150 after coupon at Staples back in February. Haven't seen it go lower than $150 in the past.

Great deal and if I hadn't decided to go with an nForce 2 mobo for the next rig, I'd be jumping on this.

Looks like Creative is adding 7.1 to their new models that are coming out later this month (guess
that is why dealers are lowering price on the current stuff):

Monday, 18 August, 2003
Creative offers two more Sound Blaster Audigy 2 models ? Cormac @ 17:41
Creative extended its Sound Blaster Audigy 2 line with two new models coming as three different packages: Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Digital Audio, Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum and Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro. All of these should arrive to retail late in August with MSRP of $157, $233 and $292, respectively.

From the previous models the basic Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Digital Audio differs by design and 7.1-channel connector. Features include 108dB SNR, DirectSound, MME, WDM, ASIO 2.0 (up to 16bit/48kHz), EAX 4.0 ADVANCED HD support.

Interfaces are: digital audio, 3 line-outs, DIN connector, line-in, mic-in, TAD-in, midi connector, 1 x IEEE1394, optical SPDIF-in/out.

The Platinum package includes the basic soundcard model as well as the white/black 5" interface module.

Platinum Pro differs by both features, and architecture, featuring 3 line-outs (7.1), AUX-in, external module power connector. The package also includes remote control.

All packages also include Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness and Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield games.

Picture link for the ZS models is now dead (they have moved on to new topics).
Real dilemma here. If I am going to buy a high end audio
card, it would seem to make sense to wait and spend the extra
money to get 7.1 and the other new features they are adding.
I'm not planning to upgrade audio every few years. What do
others think? Will it be worth double the price for the new features?
Don't see much/any 7.1 format product now, but since my receiver
can handle it and I have the 7.1 speaker setup now anyway, it
would be a shame to limit the HTPC output, right?

Saw saw that, but they're not stocking them anymore. I emailed them about when Newegg expects a new shipment in and they said the product it showing as "Discontinued". Anyway, not sure what you mean "more reliable"...the link I had is directly from Creative Labs. Not like they're going to screw you over or anything

Stop the insanity!!! Most people don't have room for a 4.1 speaker setup on the desks...htf are people going to fit a 7.1 speaker system around them??? 7 speakers and a sub? That's insane for a PC...pretty soon you're going to be sitting on speakers because there's no room for a chair!

A HTPC doesn't go on a desk. It is a Home Theater PC, so it goes where the TV and stereo go. My plan is
to use the PC as a kick-ass DVD player (will play all formats in progressive scan where it can), CD player,
digital audio player, etc. so I am not talking about speakers on a desk, I am talking about linking the sound
card to my receiver (optically, of course), so that it can tap into the 7.1 setup I already have.

They took it offline around thursday considering they were out stock and didn't want any more backorders.

Just call 1-800-3staples and order there with a PM.
