Only thing is i cant find any ratings on the resseller. They appear to be british but shipping to america was only $33 for me. I would be so all over this if i knew anything about these people. I was just looking for a good laptop deal and stumbled accross this and always being a Ferrari fan i did some research and found this store to be a good $400 cheaper than any place else for an absolute powerhouse of a laptop.

Credit Card order with photograph of the front & back of your credit card and a copy of a recent credit card statement

ROFL.......OMG who in their right mind would give a photograph of their credit card and a copy of their statement to a company???

This company is a total SCAM.

This company is a total SCAM.

I 'operate' a small e-commerce store, for which I do the credit card processing through ProPay.com. For all orders shipped to destinations outside the USA, ProPay requires me to get a photocopy of the front and back of the credit card. This is a *big* annoyance for me; but, without it, they will not protect me in case of a fraud. (Who knows if they will protect me even with those!) Of course, I have never heard of asking for copies of statements.

The interesting thing is many people from different countries DO send in the scanned images.

I called a friend in London and he said this is a pretty well known company that has been around for years and has a good reputation. Website seems much better than average for scam also, that proves nothing but is untypical. I am going to give them a call and see how they sound. That CC information request is pretty typical in England. When I lived there I was always amazed at the complications on simple things.
You ought to try to buy car insurance, I had to have written proof of what kind of job I had. What you did for a living determined insurance cost, or even if you could get it at all.

I will let you know what they have to say.

Great price! I got this laptop from buy.com and its unbelievable. Weird thing is that when I go thru the checkout process, I get someone elses address prefilled out:

United States

I'd be careful...

EDIT: Edited out the address, didn't know it was an AT member's real addy

The problem is that if you've used the URL above, you're sharing a session with everyone else that used the link too. Clear your cookies and start fresh at their home page instead of using the full URL above

Ok, I just called this outfit and they do seem legit, see above. I asked if they have them in stock. They have 184 as they bought out the entire stock in the UK from the distributor as they will no longer be sold there. I asked if a friend in London could come by and pick one up for me, no problem, but they will have to collect VAT which amounts to $77.24 (17.5%) which can be refunded if it is exported but is a lot of trouble. The cheapest FedEx shipping to Houston is $77.24 according to my friend if he takes it to Fedex. They will do if for $39 and it would be delivered Monday the 11th. If he pays for it in GBP it will cost $1182.08 converted to US $ as of today.

I think I am going to ask Edd to go by on his way home, he lives in Hatfield and they are located on Honeypot Lane on the same train line, and pay for it and they will ship today unless it is too late. It will cost total of $1222.08 total and I will get it Monday or Tuesday. Edd said it is definately OK if they have a B&M location and they take your money over the counter. England has pretty swift enforcement of consumer laws and they would be out of business fast.

By the way, asking for a copy of your last statement is just a way of making sure you are shipping something to the address of the card holder. Everyone is wary of shipping to a foreign country. Almost all US companies will even not do it at all.

I will let you know how it comes out........

Funny when i order through newEgg or any other legit merchant they seem to verify my address without asking for a copy of my statement...

This STILL doesn't explain why...

a.) Their domain is registered to someone in California
b.) Their domain was registered less than a month ago
c.) Their contact is a YAHOO FREE E-MAIL ADDRESS
d.) Their credit card entry page is not secure

Do you live in England and order from Newegg in the US?
Are you aware of Newegg's policy of shipping outside of the US?
I thought not.

There's a big difference between notebookexpress.com and notebookexpress-ltd.com. The first one is a legit store in the UK, the second one is a scam.

Besides the lack of secure check out, which nixes this deal for me, I still haven't seen why this is a scam site. Just wish my uncle still lived in England to have them check them out for me.

Lol the address above is my information. Didnt realize the site would save it in the URL like that. Anyways the site like i mentioned seemed alittle to cheap for this product and being in england made this deal alittle to hot for me. If i had the money i might really consider it though. I wont be laptop shopping until this summer though.

I know alot of stuff points to scam but most of the prices seem reasonable unlike this one. Seems like most other laptops on there are legit as far as the price goes. Anyways if someone does go through with this or if they could acctually visit the store that would be great.

Coming from the UK and know what a rip of the prices are for cunsumer electronics I'd say even at the full price of GBP930 it would still be a bargain!

A bottom of the range Dell laptop in the UK is around GBP400....

$77 to ship with Fedex to the USA is pretty cheap - I've priced sending laptops from the USA to other countries and the cheapest I noted was over $100 with USPS.

Most of the big players Fedex/UPS etc were touching $200 to ship - surface was cheaper but that would take around a month...

Well, my friend picked the laptop up from the store in north London, paid the $1180 plus about $78 VAT, shipped it FexEx thru the company he works for at a discounted price of about $50. The VAT is supposed to be refundable as it was exported from UK, but we're not really counting on it. So total of $1308. Newegg has it for $1879. I could not find out if any customs duty will apply. Looking at the customs website it seems as if you have to subscribe for about $20 to access the duty database of fees!!! Might be between 0 and 2.6%. I should have it about Wednesday. It's been a lot of trouble and I'm not sure it's worth it. The place is real, located in an office building on the first floor. Doesn't look much like a retail location, he said, but they do have a lot of stock on hand. No idea if warranty is valid in US. Edd did not open the box before shipping it so I hope it's not just a slab of Stonehenge, actually that might be worth more.

I'm not sure about "not" paying tax or import duties into the USA - that could be a hiccup for you.

It certainly applies from the USA to the UK.

I often send stuff back to the UK for my mother and have only been hit for the charges once so far. It's all a bit of a lottery really.
