There's a substitute?!?!?!Originally posted by: oslama
The substitute is the WD 120gb EXTR 1200BBRNN and Iomega 80gb EXT
In fact, in a fit of "buyer's desperation", at the last store that I went to in an attempt to PM with the OM flyer, I bought a slightly-distressed but NIB TDK 440N DVD burner for $40.Originally posted by: oslama
the extend warranty is 14.95 for 3yrs from WD
or OM has $5.99 replacement plan for an additional yr.
Where are you getting this information? The manual that came with mine states (and I quote) "WD warrants that the Product, in the course of its normal use, will be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of one (1) year andOriginally posted by: flylikeaneagle
I was surpirsed to learn that these drives comes with a 1 year warranty from date of manufacture, not the date of purchase.....giving you a 30 day warranty in most cases.
WTF....

No substitutes in Gainesville, Fl OM.
That's bull. The discounted offer was showing up on the web site (and not as an "in-store only special"), two days before the B&M sale flyer showed it at that price, AFAIK. Well, don't feel too bad, I didn't get one either. :|Originally posted by: MarlboroJones
Called them today to check status and was told my order was cancelled - per the rep, there is no back order as this was an instore only deal.

Thanks Garlic, for the OP. And, thanks oslama, for mentioning that there were no less than TWO attractive substitutes, and, also, thanks HESDog for mentioning the $20 rebate on the Iomega -- snagged me one for $31.XX inc. tax AR!
Stopped by one of the OM's I knew were out of the original, and told them about the two authorized substitutes. They were reluctant the whole way through. I brought them the tags for BOTH of the subs. They eventually offered me the Iomega. I asked about the WD, and one of the many managers and assistant managers who flubbed their way through this turgid process lied that it was a different model DESPITE the model #'s matching perfectly.
OK, they don't know I'll gladly the take the merely 80 gb IO with the $20 rebate. So the transaction goes down and the bitch register flunkey tries to palm the rebate instead of letting me have it. Pointless argument and posturing ensues. Gesticulation and inflammed oratory create a near field disturbance. Assistant managers, and assistants to the assistant managers are summoned, and finally the Big Kahuna MANAGER his own damn self arrives in his regal OM sedan chair, fanned by cowering attendants.
The entire managerial hierarchy of the store were stonewalling, cavilling, shucking and jiving . . . and employing the crassest forms of oratorical misdirection, but I was resolute and having none of it. I took down names and positions and the store number and invoked the word "corporate" with majestic authority limned by just the hint of legal menace.
The MANAGER, a man whose position is so full of gravitas and import that it can only be typed in all caps, desperately scoured the rebate for one final out, but there was none, and, with eyes downcast and without further comment, he handed it over.
Raj the register mokey looked on with awe.
"Well done", I crowed, and sashayed out to the sunlit parking lot.
All was right with the world.
