I have the T40 version of this. Only difference is added ram & HD (768mb RAM and a 60gb 7200rpm HD)
(well, the T41 has two features different.....RAM is PC2700 vs T40's PC2100.....and the HD Shock protection system)

We ordered at least 100 of the T40's....they are awesome..... you can even play games on them....Dungeon Siege, Quake 3, UT, etc..... but you do need to turn down visuals a bit..... We use them with our sales people in the field....with the hi-cap battery (+50% more power), the T40 lasts them all day...or about 7-8hrs continous run time.

We paid about $1500 each....

Keyboards are second to none, and it has both TrackPoint and Touchpad for your mousing pleasure....or heck, use both!

Oh, on the typical T40/41 model, the HD is 4200rpm 2mb/cache unless specified.... these are meant to be a blend of mobile and full sized.

This is an incredible deal. I spent about $1600 in July on a comparably equipped T40, but that was phoning in an order and a big YMMV 20% discount. If I had the money, I'd jump on this.

Nice Find, this configurations normally goes for $1699
Just a heads up The "Intel® PRO Wireless Network Connection 802.11b" does NOT work under Linux for those of you who were thinking about trying it out.

Not a bad deal....

IBM employees, stockholders, and retirees, and freinds and family can get this laptop with a free port rep for $1499. PM me for details.

well its convenint to connect your keybaord mouse and monitor if needed.

Its for you to decide if its worth the $$ for you. If you have a desktop and are getting this then I think it would'nt be of much use.

I like the port rep because it is a one step process to connect to mouse, keyboard, monitor, and USB devices with no cables to plug in.

For those who are thinking they might want the docking station, purchasing through the stockholders deal the shipping is free, so it's actually only $65 + tax more to get the docking station. Total came to $1581 for me vs. $1512 for the original deal.

What timing! Thanks for the link. This has definitely leapt to the top of my list. To think a T30 with abysmal battery life went for $2200 only 18mo's ago....

BTW, I notice that J&R sells the X30 for ~$1K. That's almost the perfect office-work laptop. I don't know about the battery life, and the processor is only a P3, but the form factor is incredible.

Edit: Flair, I still can't figure out how to *send* PM's. Could you PM me the prot replicator details? Thanks.

I had heard from previous posts that if you call in you can get a 20% discount for businesses? Is this true? If so, I'd definitely be able to order one under my company.

As others have said here the R series is not as good as the T series. The R series are heavier as you pointed out, and the other thing is that they are pure ABS plastic models while the T series has a Magnesium alloy top cover and either a carbon fiber reinforced bottom or a Titanium reinforced carbon reinforced fiber-plastic bottom (depending on the particular model) download the Thinkpad spec sheet under "literature" for full specs.

Watch out though some of the newer T41 models have gotten rid of the Titanium reinforcement to have only carbon fiber reinforced plastic on the bottom case, they added active hard drive protection to compensate but all the T40 models have titanium reinforced carbon fiber reinforced plastic.

I ended up getting an X31 for my needs though.

If you're willing to spend a lot of money you can get the T41p with the FireGL T2 graphics processor (comes with SXGA+), it is basically the professional version of the 9600. The only thing that scared me was the price and the fact that I heard that the FireGL models actually perform slightly worse on games than the consumer models they are based on since the chip is apparently optimized for professional apllication use.

When I go into SPP my price comes out to $1623 with free dock and $1514 with the OP deal. California tax makes the original deal more attractive

I bit on the original deal.

$1505 after taxes and standard $28 shipping. I received an email with a link to a quote page, filled that out and was done. Stupid me, when it first came up the shipping said $0.00 for standard, and after checking the prices of faster shipping it wouldn't go back to $0, even after closing the window and opening the link again. I went ahead figuring it wouldn't have let me check out without selecting a shipping option, but if anyone else does this deal, try it without changing the shipping and see if it goes through - and tell me if it does so I can kick myself.

I placed my order after 10pm central time, so that may help guarantee you get an email the next morning like I did instead of a phone call, the advantage of that being that I was able to pay with a Mastercard with no questions asked instead of a Discover card. I used a platinum Mastercard so it extends the warranty 1 year and adds 90-day purchase protection just like Amex but I get cashback in addition with this card.

Here's a link to the free Nylon case:
ThinkPad Nylon Carrying Case - item 10K0207

Thanks to teKillah for passing this on from FW. I've been looking for a new Centrino laptop for the past several months, waiting for the right deal to come along. Ruled out Dell because of I kept reading about quality issues and terrible customer service. Considered the Compaq x1000 series, a couple Toshibas that have been hot deals lately, but in the end this one did it for me because I know I'm getting a laptop that will be backed by a 4-year (3 + 1) warranty and will probably last me longer than that. That's well worth a few hundred extra in my opinion.

My T41 came this morning. Very happy with the quick delivery. I'll post my impressions of it vs the Dell D500 I just returned.
