Looks like a great deal to me. The only hook is, monitors do degrade. Colors fade, pixels diffuse. Usually that takes many (5-8) years.
So there's no way of knowing how long these have been in service. The specs look pretty up to date though --- 85hz at 1600x1200 ain't shabby.
But these were high end in there day, so they would've had extraordinary specs.....
Anyone know when Sony started chugging these out?

I have the 200ps, and I believe they began manufacturing the line in 1998. Argh, should I stick with my planar 18.1" or get this?

This is an oldie. I wouldn't buy it at this point, though I must admit that this thread caught my attention...

All gone!! Teamexcess lists monitors (refurbs and grade "B") often and for low prices like this. Keep your eye on them if you missed it this time and still want one.

In previous postings about monitors from them the posters mentioned that most of the monitors arrived looking in great / very good condition considering they where buying something that had been previously used.

Thanks KAMAZON. I jumped into this one when I saw the thread. The remaining number was 25 or something when I put this into the shopping cart. It was down to 12 when I finished.

I was looking into this a year ago when it was selling at ubid for about $400ish. That was the time when I was getting into digital darkroom. This was one of the few monitors that are recommended by graphic arts professionals at that time. For doing graphic or digital darkroom, color fidelity is a must. The same pic file looks differently in different monitors even thought they are Triniton. To ensure color consistency, you have to do a color calibration when you first get your monitor. Otherwise it is like you are looking through a set of filter of unknown density or color. What you see may not look the same on paper later.

The price is right. When I got my Hitachi 19" six years ago, it was like a grand or so. This is cheaper than a good 19" TV. It is a bargain just for hooking this one up to a progressive scan DVD player.

Dude, you aren't a very informed consumer.
I also have a Sony monitor. Made by Sony. With Sun Microsystems on the bezel. Sweet as all hell, and still by Sony. Less than the price of a Sony, though. I had a Dell, which I upgraded from, which was also made by Sony, but has the name Dell on the front bezel. Yes, much cheaper than Sony brand though.

BTW, I highly recommend a 21" monitor to anyone who spends more than 4 hours a day on the computer. It should handle at least 1280x1024 at 100 hertz. It really helps with people squinting and getting headaches.

If you read or work with alot of text, definately get a LCD. It helps me from getting tunnel vision when I'm sitting in front of it at hours on end.

Uh, dude, I'm well aware there are "rebadged' Sony's out there dude. So dude, before you go around commenting on others people's knowledge, dude, maybe you should consider that you aren't the only person out there who knows such things, dude.

Okay , dude?

So, I think maybe, dude, you missed my point dude.

By the way, thanks "Kamazon" for the info. Was a great deal.

I jumped on this bought two. I will let you know how it looks when I get it. I too noticed that there are a lot of other monitors on there. It looks like this may be a good place to look in the future.

As a side note, I ordered one and then realized I wanted another. I placed an identical order. Within an amazing 15 minutes of pressing BUY, I got an email from a Lisa from CS. She asked if that was a mistake to buy two, or if I really wanted them. I told her I wanted both and she replied back informing me that she appended the first order and brought the shipping/handling down $20 for buying two! That is what makes me want to go to them again in the future. Great service- now let's hope the monitor is a good deal.

toadstool,

I think you have exceeded the amount of allowed uses of the word dude in one post, you shall now be pooped upon my a very large and ugly flee infested camel and you shall wear his poopy for 30days, without showering. After this time you may return to anandtech.

Thanks

hey kamazon, when you talked to them did they ever say if they would allow pickup? i am in san diego, and have checked out their store about 3-4 months ago. but i never got around to calling them. just wondering if they had mentioned it. that would make it a hot deal, so save $50 for shipping (gotta pay tax, but have to pay that online anyway).

Yes I called them about this monitor today and they reserved one to look at tomorrow. You can purchase it there and avoid the shipping charges.

Here's the manual. If it had dual HD15 VGA inputs, I'd get it. The delivered price of $259 (to Seattle) still makes it the best deal on a good 21".

I'll just have to make do with my dual 19" FD Trinitrons.
