I would guess your cpu is throttling, or you need to update your motherboard chipset drivers.

You should have ample hardware to run that game...it's a nice system. The only things I can think of would be:

1. Low Ram (to many other apps eating into your 1GB).
2. Other System Resources/Background apps running (eating into cpu cycles).
3. CPU is throtteling (open the case and make sure it stays cool to verify).

The first two are easy to verify with Taskmanager, and the last one just requires some fresh air and an open case to ensure the temps are low enough to not cause throtteling. Hope this helps.

You idoits that are anti-Intel and try to use it for an excuse for anything really need to wake up...any day now even.

In other news, the MSI 7800GTX cards are definately one of the lowest ranking fabs of the 7800 chipset. Even with that in mind, check an over-riding driver setting that might be attempting to push down a differnet configuration for the game. Also, what are you running in the background?

That's a normal score for a 7800gtx in 3dmark05, and that benchmark is mostly gpu-limited. Performance in a real game depends not only on the gpu, but the cpu also, and currently Intel processors perform worse than equivalent A64 cpu's - that's a fact.

but not enough to have stuttering everywhere, have you tried turning down texture setting FIESTARIA?

i really didn't know that about MSI's cards. but anyway... there are no programs running in the background when i am playing a game.regarding to this over-riding driver setting...sorry but i don't have a clue

if u mean the texture filtering option from the game the answer is yes. i tried it and i also tried the game in 800*600 with fsaa in the middle(no exact figures in nfsmw). the situation got better but it isn't the point is it?? knowing that there are a lot of people out there (good for u guys) who can play this game 100% smoothly(i don't know if that word exists but forgive me) in resolutions on the order of 1600*1280 etc without using sli, then why we are talking for 1024*768 and not HQ settings?

thanks for your response!!

not filtering, just plain "texture" setting

and once again, nfsmw stutters no matter what (used 7800 gtx, 7800 gt sli, and 7900 gtx)
even at 1280x1024

so try it in another game

another thing, the brand of the card DOESN'T MATTER, the same model of ANY BRAND runs the same (given that the clock speed is the same)

Yea definitely true, my 7800GT at clock speeds show below 8302 on 05

in fact i also had problems with thief deadly shadows.prior to that i played prince of persia warrior within and fear(all of them in 1024*765 high quality) and none of them was completely smooth. i definitely don't believe that is a cpu issue. ok... i admit that amd are better but this is not the source of the problem. i have overclocked my cpu at 3.36ghz(fsb 240 and cpu is locked at 14x), memory is running at 640 mhz with dram settings at 3-2-3-8. this is the first video card that i put in my system so,there are no drivers of onother card installed. still, there are no temperature issues. cpu temperature never climbs above 66C full load. i would like to add the fact that i tried playing the game (nfsmw)in 800*600 but there were STILL probs for f... shake!!the only thing that i can think of is that i have my windows installed for about 3-4 months now. do you think that a fresh installation will help?i have read in several posts that 7800gtx is a very good card but i unfortunately haven't seen anything yet!

It definitely sounds like you did not install all the drivers for the motherboard before installing the Nvidia drivers. If so, a reinstall is your best bet, but make sure this time the video card drivers are installed last.

Just recently bought NFS:MW.. I play at 1920x1200 with everything cranked and the game runs beautifully. However I have a weird problem (that I have with other games as well) where my computer will sort of lock up for about 30 seconds.. sound will stutter, then completely stop, then come back and the game will resume. No clue what the problem is. Comp specs in sig.

Unfortunately Need for Speed Most Wanted does stutter like hell.

It looks to me that it keeps accessing the hard drive to load more of the world, as im running a X1900XTX and the framerate is constantly above 45 (At 1920x1200).

Even with my WD Raptor hard drive and 2GB of ram it stutters fairly often, only around and approaching the built up urban areas though, which leads me to beleive that it is just loading more objects.

Anyone got the 360 version? Does it do the same?

It sounds like you are either missing motherboad chipset drivers, or there is a problem with windows.

Does the Pentium-D require a dual core patch like the Athlon X-2?

Would setting processor affinity help?

I'm running NFS:MW and it's not stuttering, even when I disable SLI and run on just 1 7800GT (500/1200 or stock). I run it at 1280x1024, max ingame AA & AF, High settings except shadows, no EA Trax & Motion Blur switched off. It did stutter occasionally with shadows switched on so try disabling them.

It could only be your GTX if it was faulty, it's most likely as others have said a driver issue. Your CPU should be fine with NFS:MW, as is just 1GB RAM.

Just a small point actually, try setting the affinity in task manager for the speed.exe process to Core 0.

Not sure about setting affinity, but there is no P4D patch akin to the X2 one from MS. The way the X2's handle dual cores at the CPU level (specifically, the cache) is different between the P4D and the X2, and that's the primary problem, and what caused the requisite patch.
