Smoothies are yummy

I like making my own smoothies. My favorite is:

strawberry yogurt
3/4 banana
5-6 decently sized strawberries
handful of fresh cut pineapple (canned pineapple is just so bland compared to fresh)
little bit of orange juice
ice

A seasonal one is (when the blackberry bushes around our house are bearing fruit)
blueberries
black berries
strawberries
strawberry or blueberry yogurt
ice

And another (sister likes this one, she always asks me to make it):
1 lemon's worth of lemon juice
strawberry
fresh pineapple
orange juice
ice

I usually just toss in whatever fresh fruit is lying around. Now that I live by myself, I have less variety since I don't want to buy a bunch of food I won't eat, but the strawberry-banana-pineapple-OJ smoothie I just had was quite tasty. Over the weekend I went home for father's day. At home were some fresh picked strawberries, a fresh pineapple and some bananas. I made the most delicious smoothie.... nom nom nom.

Throw in a tablespoon of nonfat dry milk powder, it makes it smoother.

Bananas in smoothies are like breading in meatballs/hamburgers/meatloaf. While they make it smoother, they're just filler. Not to mention any smoothie with bananas tastes like banana. Strawberry orange banana = red banana smoothie, blueberry raspberry banana = blue banana smoothie. :thumbsdown: to bananas in smoothies

My favorite kind is about two cups of strawberries, 1-2 cups of ice, some orange juice, and a tbsp or two or sugar.

i love them
i am pretty good at making them also but i dont like adding fruits with seeds like strawberries or raspberries. they get stuck in my teeth. lol
my fave is anything with coconut, pineapple, and bananas. mmmmmmmmmmmm

obviously they aren't just filler if they have that big of an effect on the taste....

That has to do with the fact that you don't get good banana. Basically if a fruit is not local or something that is picked ripe and then frozen (and freezes well), don't bother. The flavour is just not there.

Yeah I think you're just putting too much banana in. If I'm making it for myself and I don't want an only-banana-tasting smoothie, I usually only put 1/2 a banana in. Bananas make smoothies nice and creamy; if you use the correct amount of banana, you either won't taste it or it will be a balanced taste instead of an overwhelming taste. I think part of the problem is that bananas can come off as very strong and a lot of other fruit's flavors can be very weak, so unless you have really tasty fruit or a lot of weak-tasting fruit, the banana will come through more.

But I haven't found anything else that makes smoothies as creamy...

It's vanilla ice cream and they put hot fudge in it, and make a milkshake out of it.

The fudge does cool down of course, but it's not that - it's the flavor the fudge adds that makes is so good.
