These includes bonus points for early completion, but not all monitoring programs account for the bonus so your ppd may seem lower.

Make sure you are folding with a passkey: http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/getpasskey.py

And add the -advmethods flag.

You will need to complete 10 WUs with a passkey before the bonus kicks in.

According to one post at the foldingforum, Windows is getting better points than Linux.

Is -advmethods now the same as -bigADV, or do you still need to invoke -bigADV?

bigadv is still needed for bigadv...advmethods is needed to get the new A3 core (which AFAIK is not quite available for bigadv yet, but will be soon)

That's your base PPD. If you are using a passkey and have completed at least 10 A2 or A3 WUs with the same passkey then you will also receive a bonus for early completion.

ok but i was getting 11000 ppd (base) folding bigadvs in a vm before. why is the ppd so low with the new a3's on the same hardware

edit: i installed hfm (was using fahmon before) and it is showing 13500 ppd. i didn't know the bonus points were that high

It looks like you would still do better with the bigadvs. Base ppd was 11,000 - and with bonus about 24,000 - 25,000?

Looks like dual core isn't enough power. I loaded this up last night on my 165 Opty running at 2.3Ghz. The first download was small and done in 2 hours. The one crunching now has a return in 2 days and fah mon says it will be done in 12 days.

I guess it is back to 2 seperate consoles for this box. I am going to put it on my quad core though. As soon as my vm finishes up the current wu.

Too bad computers can't be harnessed together to work together. I have 4 units with dual cores. Oh well they are still folding the single clients 2 ea.

I put a request in for my passkey to be emailed to me ~22 hours ago. I'm still waiting for it. until then I'll be VM folding

is there a new way to install it?

I haven't tried smp since 2007

is it still as hard and painful to setup on windows? do you still need a password?

Not yet, but when A1 WU are no longer being sent you won't need to install MPICH.

Run installer...run install.bat...run client with -configonly...run client. The windows account still requires admin rights and a password.

thanks I got my first a3 unit, I get 590ppd on a phenom x3@2.4Ghz

Am I doing something wrong or are these poor scores normal?

EDIT: I just read that fahmon isn't reliable on the new core, HFM says 2183ppd, that looks much better!

Nope not yet. I might have to join the Stanford forums, this is ridiculous.
It came right away for me.

There were some network problems at Stanford around that time, I wonder if that could have caused the problem.

Try sending for it again.

I'm going to have to eat my own words. It seems an Email forwarding issue prevented the F@H passkey's from coming through. so I ended up with a few sitting on my primary email account. hehe, oops. But i'm still uncredited for some work

According to Stanford they are still working through a backlog of A1 WUs still. At this point it's just luck whether you get an A3 or not. Also, you need the 10 SMP WUs on that passkey to qualify for the bonus.

I haven't tried smp since 2007

It's a lot easier than it used to be, but compared to single-GPU and uniprocessor folding, it's still a PITA.
