and badass at that
okay, there are two scores this movie should be given, and I will explain my reasoning and then list those scores.
First, there is the typical movie score, based on directing, acting, casting, overall script quality and whatnot. For this, SOAP failed miserably. None of the characters were really all that believeable, except Jackson filled his role it seemed. The lines were rarely delivered in a way that spoke of that character's on-screen presence.
But something was there..
What was it? Spark and comedy.
That's where the second score will come from. The enjoyment factor. SOAP was amazing when it comes to being able to be enjoyed. When I went into this movie with expectations that predicted bad movie but enjoyment, I was happy when that was delivered like I hoped it would be. The decision to add comedy to most of the characters makes one wonder if the direction this movie was meant to take was either serious thriller, or comedic, pop-culture thriller. I think it was destined to become a pop-culture phenomenon. Jackson was brilliant in that regards, as was Kenan, and the co-pilot added a few laughs. The snakes themselves provided both frights and many laughs, both in the way they acted, and in the ways they killed people. For this, the snakes are amazing. I know both real and CGI snakes were used, and all real snakes were simple, non-venomous snakes that resembled their venomous counterparts, like milk snakes instead of coral snakes.
Movie score: 4/10
Enjoyment score: 9/10
If it were purposefully made to be the way it was, the movie score would be higher. Either way, a highly enjoyable movie.
