Hey everyone!

IF you posted on my last thread about needing help with a computer that I bought, with an AMD A10-5700 processor, PLEASE respond here as well!

I just got all of my parts in today from the Newegg order I made, with the i5-3570 Processor.

I put it all together in 3 hours, and it is up and running BEAUTIFULLY.
Now, the next question I have is, how do I overclock this monster?

I run Battlefield 3 at 55FPS on Ultra!

I really want to thank all of you for encouraging me to build a computer of my own. It really wasn't difficult at all!

The only problem I had/am having is the cable management issue with the Antec 300 Illusion case. My wires are all over the place!

I hope the mods won't get upset, but I didn't know if the posters who posted in this forum would check the other ones, so if this needs to move I understand! Thanks to everyone again!

No, my signature is wrong, its a 3570k.. I just got it up and running. I only have the stock heat sink so idk if OC'ing is a good idea just yet.. I hear this CPU is having heat issues..

yeah you will want to get a aftermarket cooler. I dont have an IVB so my guess is noctua nh d14 or a corsair h80.

thanks for the advice kantastic. i just dropped the last of what i had into this computer, so as soon as i can get up some cash, i'll get that heatsink.. others have recommended that to me as well. i think overall, i built a sick machine for under $850! i owe it all to the people of anandtech that helped me out on these forums..

i can't tell you guys how happy i truly am..
the feeling of building a computer and having it run on the first try was so awesome, i can't explain it haha!

212 is a good cooler. Be sure to get the 212 Evo. It's the latest and best iteration of the hyper 212 line. Also, you'll need to remove your motherboard to mount it so don't spend too much time with cable management quite yet.

hmm do you think it's worth the hassle then? especially if i'm not planning on OC'ing it yet? i want to learn a little bit more about overclocking in general before i actually jump into it.. and i'm not a 100% sure i want to OC an Ivy Bridge CPU either.. from what people are saying a newbie could fry a CPU easily with IB.

If you're asking about it and reading about it you're going to do it. Just like you were uneasy about building your own box but eventually developed the courage to do it, it'll be the same with overclocking. Even in the unlikely event you decide not to, the 212 will allow the CPU to run cooler and it's quieter than the stock fan too.

Fact is, you've been sucked into the hobby now and it's going to nag you until you just do it! Resistance is futile

Just gonna give my 2 cents here, you can overclock a little bit probably up to 4ghz, by using the multiplier. I dunno if it sits at 33 on your but just up it enough to reach 4ghz and then stress test. If it crashes up the voltage, all while checking temps. Trial and error my friend, trial and error.

I think you will be safe for some slight overclocking on the stock HSF, I wouldn't go above 4ghz or increase the voltage at all until you get a better cooler. As usual with any overclock, stress test it so the cpu is at 100% utilization, make sure temps are below the max temp for the CPU spec (ideally more below the better), and make sure the system is stable.

I usually don't like anything being above 80C for long periods of time, that's my max no matter what the sheets say, be it CPU or GPU. For Ivy it seems 75-80C seems to be somewhat common at max load.

When you get more $ blow it on a good TIM and HSF then up the OC.

I thought the newer Antec 300's had a cutout behind the CPU area, so you don't need to remove mobo. My 300-2 has a cutout and pretty good cable management provisions.

You might be right. I'm not that familiar with the case.

It does look to have a large cutout. Would depend on motherboard socket placement tho as sometimes they don't line up too friendly. The hyper series mounting system isn't to noob friendly.

Yeah I built my first pc this jan. I am now on my 6th or 7th. So far all booted off the bat. Once you try oc then it gets to crash a bit. I went to my mobo forum sites to get a clue on the boards. asus ,gigabyte and intel all have forums most likely some one has asked about clock settings for the same board and same mobo you have.

Yeah, building PCs and configuring software has become much easier. 15 years ago, w/ Windows 95, it was a game of chess, to get everything right.

@snapptastic

Overclock with the stock cooler for now, just increase the CPU multiplier to say, 40. Leave everything else on Auto. That's a start

He'd be paying $15 more dollars for the EVO. Might as well get the FRIO for $30 AR.

How do I do that exactly? lol

Well, first you have to get to the BIOS screen, press F2 and / or DEL during computer start-up.

In BIOS, find "CPU multiplier" line or similar... change it from Auto to 40x. Save settings (usually F10).

Consult your mainboard manual, when in doubt. There should be everything explained in great detail.

Yup, congrate on building first rig. Now your totally screwed. Once the bug bites the itch to upgrade and OC never goes away. Change multiplier to 40 like others have said and leave everything else alone. Don't forget to change the setting "all cores adjustable in OS" so all your cores go to 4ghz.

So what I changed was the "Load Optimized CPU OC Setting" to 4.0GHz? Is that correct?

I also had an option to do the same with GPU (1400 and above)
And there was an option on top of everything about TurboBoost and when I enabled that, it changed everything and put that setting to 47 instead of 40..

I'm really confused lol..

My startup to windows is also pretty slow, probably 10 seconds..
