Doesn't really matter in the end the SNES classic is emulation, therefore, any arguments that it is somehow 'better' are null. If you want to buy such an item, so be it, but quit demonizing anyone else who knows there are other ways to go about the same thing without the BS attached to it. Guarantee there isn't a single one of you here who is 100% legit on everything you have other the years.
The issue isn't the emulation. The issue is who has the right to distribute the ROMs as copyrighted pieces of software. Nintendo does; any non-Nintendo website that you can download ROMs from doesn't.

I'm not claiming to be a saint, here. I'm just saying that it's disingenuous to compare a legitimate product to piracy, as if piracy is just an alternative.

...files to which Nintendo already owns the intellectual property rights or has a distribution licensing agreement with the IP owner.

Understand?

Yes, that Nintendo is lazy and loves to hype and gouge where it can. I never said that they didn't have legal rights to do such things with their IP. Though I'm sure you can find some lawyers and judges who would find them in violation of the DMCA as they are using illegally made copies/images.

There's a massive difference between "I jaywalk on occasions/downloaded a rom 20" years ago to "let's go ahead and download every console game ever pre 2000"

Then what's your point? They're the same files you could download via piracy because they come from the same source -- the original game cartridges. There's no violation of the DMCA because Nintendo is the copyright holder in the first place (or is paying for licensing from Capcom, Konami, Square, etc). Who exactly do you think would have grounds to sue Nintendo?

I believe you saw a misleading article implying that Nintendo downloaded the ROMs instead of making their own copy.

I don't feel like debunking it again, but believe me when I tell you that article is inaccurate and misleading...basically sensationalist bullshit. I'm familiar with backup devices of the era (I still have some of the hardware).

Yes. Last year and this past Friday, Nintendo has demonstrated the ongoing retail viability of their intellectual property beyond any doubt. Nintendo and its employees deserve to profit from the company's creations until their legal right to do so expires.

So has anyone had problems with the snes classic on their receiver? Mine works fine if I plug it straight into my tv but if I plug it into my receiver I get nothing.

Wow, Super Ghouls N Ghosts is hard! I must have died a dozen times before I completed the first level. >.> It's a lot of fun though once you get the hang of it. I just wish it wasn't plagued with slowdown. I really wish Nintendo put a faster processor in the Super Nintendo back in the day. From what I hear it was even slower than that of the Sega Genesis, which was a full two years older.

I don't know about "deserve", but they're certainly entitled to profit from it. Being grumpy about having to pay *gasp* about $4 per game and being frustrated with how highly demanded the product is doesn't entitle someone to obtain any of the games illegally.

Well I tried playing around with it a bit this morning but still couldnt get it working on my receiver. I was able to get the video to come up for a little bit but there was no audio and the video cut out after a minute or so. at some point a message came up on the screen saying the input video was incompatible with my receiver but the video would come up for a second or two if I reconnected the HDMI cable. Really weird as I've had no problems with anything else on this receiver.

Do you have anything else with 720p output?

Ghouls n Ghosts games are well known as very difficult games. I haven't played this one yet.

Yea the Super Nintendo has a slower processor which Sega used as marketing as their Blast Processing.

Not at the moment, but I used to have a comcast box that was 720p and that worked fine.

I have one of those Atari 2600 retro things and it doesn't work on my receiver either. I hear sound but video doesn't work. It only came with the normal yellow/white AV cables though, not HDMI.

Were you ever able to get it to work or did you just hook it up to your TV? I was thinking of messing around with the audio settings and see if that changes anything, although I'd think it wouldn't matter. Does anyone know what the audio output of it is? I couldn't really find details on the output online anywhere.

I never got it to work, but about 5 minutes after hooking it up to my TV I realized how shitty Atari 2600 is and I unhooked it and it's been in the box since.

Haha well can't blame you there, I was having fun playing through a few different games with the SNES hooked up to my TV so I'm gonna have to find a way to get it working on my receiver.

And yet Nintendo will sell you the roms via their console store that are often the same files one could download via piracy.
What a revelation! How profound! Thank YOU for making me aware! How MASSIVELY ignorant I was before you came along and enlightened me! You've really opened all of our eyes with your AMAZING insight! BRAVO!

Is that the response you'd hoped for?

What is the refresh rate of the SNES classic? I'd assume 60fps, in which case 720p60 may be unsupported by the receiver...?

I'd get one if it had Chrono Trigger and Tales of Phantasia. The game selection is nice otherwise, but it sucks that they are limited to what they ship with.

Tales was a SFC exclusive back then and was never translated or released for SNES. GBA and cellphone ports don't count.

They aren't going to invest resources doing that for a single title with profits shared between Nintendo, Namco, Square-Enix, Capcom, retailers, etc (20 other games).

Star Fox 2 only happened because it was completely finished and did not require a new team to finish and bug test their work. Even then, SF2 couldn't be counted as one of the "SNES Classics" since it was never released for the SNES here (hence, 20 "+1" on the game count).

Hmm I'll have to check my receiver model when I get home, I know it's Denon but not sure which model. I'd be surprised if it didn't support 720p60 since I've had quite a few different systems hooked up through it (weren't a lot of the last gen systems outputting at 720p?). I'll have to try contacting Denon maybe, although I bet they won't help that much.
