Sniping type games?

I enjoy using the sniper rifles in games such as COD but there's never really enough for me. I remember the very first Project IGI game that I played years ago and I remember that fondly (I wish I still had that game, lost it somewhere!).

Are there any current single player games like this where there's a stealth requirement and the opportunity for plenty of sniping?

Singularity is pretty cool. Playing it now still. Not exclusively sniper, just a few missions really. But it's got one of the best rifles I've ever seen. And when you shoot, the camera angle follows the bullet which is one of the coolest things ever.

Well, Deus Ex is no where near "current", but it's pretty much the best game ever and you can snipe like a mofo.
You can scope your pistol and your minicrossbow, too.

If you haven't played it, do so. (There may be issues with the game running too fast but there are fixes out there. The widescreen utility is stickied.)

sniper:ghost warrior

if you're looking for pure stealth/sniping, this is it. It's not perfect though.

There's also a WWII sniping game, Sniper Elite, but its very old and wasn't very fun when i played it.

Call of Duty: MW and MW2 both had excellent sniping sections. If someone would make a sniper game exactly like those sections, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

You can also give some of the more sim like games a spin. I know when I played Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising I did a shit ton of sniping and there's stuff like bullet drop and whatnot in that too.

Metro 2033. The stealth mode is pretty bad, but the engine is designed for hundreds of light sources from camp fires to spotlights complete with volumetric smoke, depth of field effects, etc. that make for some of the most realistic night time sniping scenes.

One of my favorite missions from hitman was when you were in russia and you had to snipe some bad guy. Seriously, try that series out if you're into the steathy stuff. You could go guns blazing too if you want to mix things up.

Most of the game is pretty close-quarters though.

I heard Far Cry 2 has a decent amount of sniping but I've also heard it's a bad game. Haven't played it so I'm not sure myself.

I actually think Sniper Elite is pretty fun.

I have it on Steam, and I was getting into it when my HD crashed and I never reloaded it, but I mean to one of these days.

Yeah, sniping is only a small part of the game. I should have mentioned that. Still, if you really love sniping and have a fairly powerful rig what sniping it has is awesome.

Yup.. I liked it too. Especially head shots from long distances.. it has gracious amounts of gore too. This is a full fledged sniper game.. there is no use going in guns blazing.. each level takes a lot of time to complete and you need to have a lot of patience.

People don't seem to enjoy this game due to their lack of patience.

It does if you want it to....you can approach pretty much any situation with sniper rifle in hand - or you can sneak in and try to slice a few guys up before you get noticed.

I personally love the game, but I can see why a lot of people don't like it. The missions are very repetitive, and there is a lot of traveling - so plenty of people find it very boring. Maybe I'm just boring, but I really get into it.

The Dart rifle is a must in the game, too bad it wears down so quickly.

CS:S. Snipe all day, every day if you wish!

Check out the 'nicKnOit - Giving Back' video on youtube. It's the most amazing sniping you're ever likely to see. I would link it but can't access youtube from work.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior was pretty good. I'm probably going to play through it again pretty soon.

They've actually licensed CryEngine3 for the Sniper 2. So that should be interesting.

The original Operation Flashpoint had my favorite sniper missions. Having to take gravity and wind into consideration made it a fun excercise to kill the guy while he was out in the open while you were a mile away.

There's a few sniping missions in ARMA 2. One in particular you had to assassinate a general at a building. You can get in close pretty easily but then it's almost impossible to retreat once you get the kill. Only way is to increase your shot distance but that means it'll be a more difficult shot to make. Replayed it several times and farthest shot I made was ~800 meters. Enemy had no idea I was even there and just walked back to the extraction zone.
