We just completed a nice ski vacation in Utah, traveling from NorCal in our own car. I had a ski box and winter tires on it, and everything went off without a hitch. However, the drive is a major drag. 11-12 hours of Nevada desert, crossing endless summits until you get to Salt Lake City.
Done this twice, and not really looking to do it again. So, let's say we want to go to Colorado or Canada next time - how do you deal with rental cars?
I have two concerns:
- winter tires
- rack/box for your gear
Do the rental agencies even offer rental cars with winter tires to begin with? What about ski/snowboard racks? Even if you rent equipment locally, you still need to transport it to and from the slopes.
Has anyone dealt with this? How do you do it?
Thanks.
