I have an 2007 Mazda 3 hatch and my tires are worthless in snow.

I have the original Goodyear Eagle RS-A tires and definitely need something better.

I would like High Performance All-Season tires that are good in the snow. Any recommendations?

Why don't you get dedicated snow tires? My gf has an 07 hatch as well and we bought a dedicated set of winter tires for it.

I don't see why you would buy all seasons...just get some full blown snows and swap them with your old ones between seasons.

This is Missouri. We have anything from -20 to 70 degree weather in the winter. We have maybe a dozen snow days per winter season.

Dedicated winter tires seem like overkill.

Thanks for the tip.

Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S look nice, but pricey.

How are Kumho Ecsta ASX or Dunlop SP Sport Signatures tires?

ive got pirelli pzero nero m+s on my grand prix and they do great in the snow. i agree with you, no need for dedicated snow tires in MO. its usually melted or cleared off by the next day anyway.

Damn Homer, you're a posting machine!

Thanks. I'll see what Pirelli's are available for my car.

<3 Arizona, where I can run around with drag radials all year round and not deal with snow, ice, winter storage, etc.

I really need to move South or Southwest. I detest winter.

Any opinions on:
Avon Tech M550 A/S
BFGoodrich g-Force Super Sport A/S
Dunlop SP Sport Signature
Kumho Ecsta ASX

???
Help, RSA's are terrible. I hope I don't die on the way home.

Closest dealer is 2 hours away and with a price tag of $200 per tire, they are out of my budget.

Hey, Discount Tire Direct had some promotions this season. i got a set of 15inch steelies mounted with Hankook iPike W409 for 274 shipped, mounted and balanced for my tC. Keep an eye out for promotions. They're doing fine in the snow, a little noisy and the feedback isn't as great, but coming from Bridgestone RE92s... these are much better especially in the snow/wet.

Man....I am on the same boat as you! I was surprised how bad these tires are in the snow.

Yeah those tires are terrible. I had a hell of a time stopping at stop lights in any snow or ice. I bought Kumho's and they are better.

I have Kumho Ecsta ASX on a 5-speed 03 Elantra and they were pretty good in the light snow dallas had last winter. With my old tires it was really bad even with traction control engaged, with the Kumho's the traction control never aggressively engaged even with some spirited clutch engagements. The tires were great even in the 60+mph freeway driving.

I used to have some Potenza re92s and they sucked. Noisy and made my car feel like a hockey puck in the snow. Only thing I liked about those tires were that they felt really firm. I have some Kumho Ecsta ASXs now and the ride appears to be a bit softer and handles the winter better. Alot of people say the Ecsta ASXs are quiet, but mine make a slight low frequency groaning sound at low speeds and even more groaning noises during cornering at low speeds. Anyone else noticing that with their Ecstas? I dont have much experience comparing the Ecsta ASXs with other all season tires, but in the snow/ice they still wont perform anywhere close to a true winter tire. I noticed that the Ecstas grip the snow/ice fairly well during turns, but still slip fairly easy in straightline acceleration/braking.

I R biased towards BFG due to their excellent off-road designs. Prolly can't go too far wrong even without researching.

When the originals need replacing on my Golf, I have considered not only such all-terrain tires but also a lift kit and metal skid plates which are OEM options in certain markets with rougher roads.

I ordered some Toyo Versado LX tires. They should be here this week.

Thanks for the post I just bought a 3 over the summer, and living in the same general area, I'll probably be in the same boat at some point. Live and work in Bentonville, AR, but my whole family lives up in St. Louis, so I'm up that way probably every month or two at least.

Edit: never mind on the OE tire question. Looked at the first post again. Mine came with Toyo Proxes from the dealer, rather than GY Eagles.
