I would assume they are black steel wheels.

Thank goodness I don't live in an area with snow. But, if I did, I would not buy 18" wheels for use with snow.

I would buy the smallest wheel that will fit over the brakes.

I would probably try to buy a set from a lower model... IE for the gen coupe, maybe the sedan or some other hyundai/kia.. But a set from someone who has upgraded from their aftermarket wheels. It's usually the same price as steelies.

I would be leery of getting a cheap no name brand wheel from tirerack that will bend the first time you look at a pothole since the snow hides everything.

From what I read on the gencoupe forum, steelies will not fit over the Bremo's that are on the 3.8 Track.

They suggested using the 18'' OEM that come with the non Track/ R Spec models. However, those are in the $200 price range per wheel...Kind of pricey for something that will be on the car for like 4-5 months.

I would guess you could find them cheaper as a set though. $400-$600 from some kid who has upgraded to dub deuces.

18" is 18" ... I don't understand how an 18" steel wheel wouldn't fit over your brakes if it comes with an 18" cast/forged wheel stock.

B/c this car doesnt come with 18'' stock. It comes 19'' stock. From what I've read only the 2013+ 18''s will fit over a 2013+ 3.8 Track (because of the brembo's and perhaps the stock ones have a dif clearance to the caliper).

I'm still doing research. I really don't want steelies. They look like shit unless you drive a WRX or something.

There's a thread about a guy who used old 17'' mustang wheels but he needed a "hub centric ring" because the ford hub is larger than the Hyundai.

I'd hate to buy wheels I thought fit, but then hit caliper.

Ah gotcha. Well, those must be HUGE brakes to not reliably clear an 18" wheel.

I guess my main point is that 'cheap' wheels tend to bend. Personally, I would prefer a spare set of OEM wheels over any of the cheap aftermarkets.

Past that, may be it makes more sense to get a set of nice forged wheels for summer, and keep your OEM wheels for winter.

....At some point it starts to make sense to find a good tire guy who will just swap out the tires. You have to realistically look at how long you'll own the car, how many times tires will get swapped, and compare that to the cost of a set of wheels.

My tire shop charges me like 15 per wheel because I've been going there forever. Maybe price out winter tires, and ask what they'd charge to swap them twice per year.

I use a sledge hammer with long handles. Tap the rubber part of the wheel from the inside and it comes off easily.

Right... I think I would end up trying to find some used 18'' OEMs. Looks like those will fit.

I will have to call around to ask about tire mounting and balancing prices, but I don't really think I'd want to get 19'' snow tires. I probably won't put new summer wheels on either, as I think money will be better spent on mods like exhaust, intake, ECU tune, etc. Wheels IMO are expensive for what you gain. If anything, the most I would do to them is plastidip them.

I will go do the math anyway with the 19'' snow tire and just mounting new tires of the OEM 19'' wheels each season, but I bet it would take a few years to recover costs. Obviously in the long run that's worth it.. But wouldn't I get better snow grip out of skinnier 18'' tires?

I just keep the year rounds on, never an issue. I've made it to work on days in a Honda Civic when other co workers who drive trucks called in.

After putting these on, I've realized my rear tires are far more shot than I thought, I thought I had a season / maybe two left on them... no way that will happen.

So in replacing I've got a few questions for ideas I'm kicking around:
*Rims are 18x8 front and 18x8.5" rear*
**Front tire 225/40/18 and Rear 255/40/18**
1. Run a 225/45/18 tire in the rear to have a slightly more "narrow" tire for digging in to snow (using 225/40 would drop the ass end another 1", which would put me too low

2. See if I can buy a set of front rims so I'm running 18x8 all around and then have 225/40/18 all around (then I can rotate tires too)

3. buy a set of the stock 17s that are even more narrow (have to check if this would clear my brakes)

I know. They have sets for around $160 per wheel.

I'm currently struggling with the quality issues I am reading about with the gen coupe. People saying they get creaking and sqeaking in the car. Sometimes it turned out to be minor.. Others it was discovered the actual welds in the car were bad/lacking.

Not totally sure now if I want to go through with the purchase...Hard to tell how big of an actual issue this may be.
