Northeast is decent, but not in the same league as what is found out West.

West Virginia and below is truly laughable.

on the other hand, West Virginia has the best ATV trail system. Hatfield Mccoy far beats out anything we have, as colorado isn't the best about marking trails and utah likes to tell you how hard it is once your are six miles in...I have nothing but admiration for the work WV has done in making a fantastic trail system.

Garmish rules. been there several times while I was stationed in Germany. my wife is colorado native and the first time she ever skied was in Austria.

Yeah. I've seen ski patrol with speed guns...just like cops. Generally, it's a judgement call and they'll give you a warning. Repeated stops and actively trying to evade is what gets you in trouble and ticketed/arrested. The only times you'll immediately be ticketed and told to leave is if you're speed skiing down a bunny hill loaded with children or something equally retarded.

I have seen people arrested for causing collisions, resulting in injury, due to their recklessness (specifically at Copper two times [same day]). From my understanding each time the person had been previously warned.

There's a pretty main artery that dumps out by a nigh-speed quad. It's a slow speed bunny portion right above the lift, but it's still a little steep and snow is usually pushed to the edges by the end of the day. So there's a large mix of skill levels and some assholes will just bomb it, straight in to people airplaning at slow speeds.

Only green slopes experience this anyways, like the main green run at Northstar gets packed. The bunny slope at Sierra sees this, but if you go on other blue/black runs especially like the backside of certain places, I can lie down there just to enjoy the peace and quiet. Yes and I've been to crowdedass places like Northstar and Heavenly.

And the problem with snowboarders is that it is hard as fuck to get the basics down. Skiing is much easier to be mediocre at.

I disagree with that completely. A lot of my friends picked up boarding (as it was cooler than skiing at the time) and they had no problem handling themselves after the first few times. They've since tried skiing and failed miserably .. now maybe that's just because they're used to boarding, I don't know. I boarded for a few months once just to give it a shot, and I didn't think it was really all that hard once you get used to having both of your feet in place (coming from a skier). Unless of course you consider being mediocre at skiing to be pizza pie'ing your way down the hill, then sure, I guess it is as you can do that one day 1.

Actually I think we agree, our definition of mediocre is just slightly different. By mediocre I mean able to go down an intermediate run without falling every 10 feet.
