So, the mountain I used to ski during my younger years opened early this season and I went up yesterday for a few hours. The first thing I noticed was that snowboarders outnumber skiers at least 7-8 to 1. Ok, whatever. But what's the deal with 1) falling every 15-20 yards and then lying in the middle of the trail for 5-10 minutes 2) only boarding in packs of 5+ such that when you want to take a break, you lie on the ground in the same packs of 5+ completely obscuring the beginning (usually) of a trail. I spent more time yesterday avoiding seated boarders and trying to doge falling ones than actually spending time skiing normally. What gives? It got so bad I actually had 2 out of control snowboarders hit the tails of my skis while calling out in distress. Luckily, I was able to regain control each time .. although I did level the first kid with an elbow as a tried to balance myself.
Are the majority of boarders just idiots? Or was this just early season bullocks?
