I've been watching the radar and you guys must have a shit ton of freezing rain. It seems to be nothing but that all day for Indianapolis. I saw a convoy of maybe 12 electric trucks and other big gear on my way home from work heading east/north. If it's that much ice you guys are going to have serious power problems.

Here in Kenosha (most SE part of WI, 35 minutes south of Milwaukee, 50 minutes north of Chicago) near the lake it's pretty intense. Snow isn't accumulating as it normally does, I can see the concrete on my street. But the drifts are getting huge, the snow is blowing in all kinds of directions, not just coming down. Tree limbs are down all over, also. The news is saying the wind is only going to get stronger over night and snow will get heavier. Pretty insane storm so far!

An big ice storm is terrible and downs trees/limbs/lines all over the place.

Add strong winds to already ice covered lines/trees? Not good. Not good at all. Snowpocolypse even.

Oil on hand for the oil lamps? Check.
Coal stove ready to go "off grid" and continue functioning, keeping my dining room at a balmy 85 degrees F? Check.
Bottle of wine chilled and ready for the evening tomorrow? Check.

Now that I'm *THIS* prepared, power better be knocked out for a day or so. Of course, if my wife makes it to work tomorrow (hospital), she'll probably end up staying over. Last time we had a horrible storm, she drove through foot deep snow on our road & got stuck against the pile from the plow at the end of the road. But, she made it in to work... on time, 20 miles away. People who lived 10-15 blocks away from the hospital called in because "I can't make it in, the roads are too bad."

Honestly, I wish we were getting snow and not all this ice here. Snow you can dig out of, and with a 4x4 you can drive though even the thicker stuff, but ice... man, not much can be done about it.

With ice loading comes faults. Sometimes these don't relay out and you have a light show. Make sure those phones/cameras are charged up! I want to see some new videos!

Seriously doesn't thunder usually follow lightning?
Unless you're in a hellstorm (tornado) where the roar of the wind is so loud you don't hear it. Actually I'm told by a survivor you do but it sounds like a finger snap and there is no rumble.

Going to brave the weather, about to shovel the first time because I don't own a snow blower since I don't have much to shovel(minimal sidewalk). So before it gets too deep at least get this first couple inches outta the way.

It is snowing like crazy here in SE Michigan. Should have some decorative looking cars in the morning. The area between my house and my neighbors makes a fun wind tunnel effect. Will post pics in the morning.
